Needless to say I prefer the story that has barca making a final take it or leave it offer of £30m than the story that has them offering around £25m but one way or another we would be the ones off our tits if we refuse to accept this bid   I would be fcuking raging if we decided to either refuse to sell no matter what or worse again try and be too cute and demanded more money

Who ever is in charge at barca must be off their tits.
a player who was suffering a permanent injury sold for less then a young player who could get even better? Seems about right
No, we got done on the Henry sale - just looking at it from a merchandising point of view, Henry was worth way more than £16m. We should have got at least £20m for him, probably more than that - the extra would have been funded by the revenues Barca must have got.

But if we can get a bit of financial revenge via Ade, and get a better striker in plus an additional player, great.

Henry's merchandising potential though may be going down with his recent struggles. Keeping an expensive player who is injury prone and suffocating the team just because he brings in a little bit of money is bad business

Barca got a player they can't use properly, whose injuries are going to get worse and had to pay big bucks for the privilege of getting our cast off

That's not the point - the question is, based on the position as it stood last summer, "What could we have got for Henry?" and the answer has to be more than £16m.

And I didn't say we should have kept Henry for his merchandising potential, just that it meant we should have got more for selling him.

bad news when we want to keep a player because of the shirts he sells ie th14,,,,
if reports are true and barca are really offering 25-30mill then arsenal would be mad not to except,, but my fear is that the money wouldnt be reinvested back into the first team,,

when you consider players like bent are sod for more than henry, you cant help but wonder what's going on.

Injerys or not Henry is better than most forwards out there. He obviousally dosn't fit in to the barca way of playing, but then again not many of the barca players covered them selves in glory last year, and yet you know that thay are still good players. 12 goals from 30 games when being played out of position isnt that bad either.

I know alot of people said we sold him at the right time and that is probably true, but, we still didn't win anything last year so you cant really say that we were any better off.

Having someone like henry in your side ins't just about the on the pitch stuff. You have to take into consideration the marketing value and more importatly the attractiveness for other players to be in the same team as Thierry Henry. Footballers are fickle creatures and its things like this that could tip the balance.

We finished 3rd after chasing for the title, even Henry admitted the team were better off without him. Away from the club, he could talk to the youngsters without his presence stifling them

we sold a player with a nasty injury and who was past his peak, suffocating the team and who was unhappy for £16 million. Yes he had marketing potential but on that front, we should sign Beckham and the Buck Toothed wonder. If the players become successful and have charisma then we get marketing potential anyway. I'm sure Barca feel delighted though they got a marketing toy but I prefer players who will suit the team

as for Bent, Spurs just pay silly money for a reserve striker and he is younger. Barca may have been ripped off but they aren't insane as to accept the £100 million difference between Bent and Henry, we had to sell him and we sold him for what we could get. A good price for a past it player whose injuries have taken a nasty toll

We did very well getting £16M for Henry.

He was 29 when we sold him, and 30 when the Spanish season started.

The deal could rise to £20M depending on appearances/trophies too.

Henry was chronically injured, losing pace, and detabilising our team's morale.

He was also on very high wages.

If anything, Barcelona got diddled.

I don't mean to sound offensive, but RPT, can you really believe anything that is written on this site (goal.com)? This is the worst site I have ever seen. Even if they quote, I can't see how anyone be sure it's true.

Anyway, PHW said yesterday that Ade is not for sale, so why send a letter to milan a day afterwards and say you are ready to talk. It doesn't sound reliable.

Because seeming reluctant to sell him helps put the price up. This has come from Milan, could be just them stirring things up but i doubt it. Has been pretty obvious that he was going to leave, specially when started asking for 120k a week, we don't pay that unless it's for the best player in the world.

Only a matter of time before he fucks off, let's just hope Wenger and the board have managed to play this one right without Dein, and have managed to secure a hefty transfer kitty.

Reading today that AC Milan claim we have written to them offering Ade for £35m(£36m depending on where you read it).
Lets hope they decide to negotiate and settle on a figure. I don't mind how much he goes for so long as a good replacement comes in. With the opening gambit being £35m then I would expect a settlement to be around £28-30m. Personally I think that is a good price for a player with only one top flight season behind them and a tendancy to miss barn doors from 6ft away.
I do like Ade. His workrate is excellent and his entusiasm doesn't seem to waiver but he is not the big deal that he believes he is and I'm sure there are better players out there that are available. My only concern is that £20m of the deal will be lost in the club and that AW will only get £8-10 for his replacement.

Wenger has somthing up his sleeve, why would he tell milan we will listen to offers when he said before he aint for sale?
I think wenger is goin to be signing a striker in the next few days.
Anyone agree?
