Mikael Silvestre

Yes we need more experience and a ball winner both in midfield and centre back but I honestly dont feel this guy is the answer to any of these needs
Silvestre would be a decent back up for Clichy though. At the moment we have Gibbs on loan, and Traore is increasingly being played on the wing for the reserves, so it would seem that if Clichy was injured, we would be ridiculously exposed...and Silvestre would be a much better backup than what we currently have, in my opinion.

Augie if we signed Alonso from Liverpool would he be a reject from one of our rivals,And wasnt Diarra a player we are crying out for now a Chelski reject?

Augie in better times I would agree with you but if we can get 50% of what we would like instead of the 100% we deserve I will be happy!

ANR is a subject of controvery here. (Arsenalnewsreview.co.uk)

It has Ian Grant who offers financial assessments and match reports, and Myles Palmer who has an individual style of writing, where he offers exclusives and scoops.

Trouble is, he is not always right, and makes wild announcements that can be wrong.

Yet he also gets whispers that turn out to be right, and offers what I feel are interesting observations on players and patterns of play.

I find the site essential reading, though I do not take it as gospel.

Guys and Gals, i just had a terrible thought!!!

He's not planning on laying Silverstre as our DMC is he????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would mean he kept his promise about a dmc before the return leg of Twente!!!

If he is then off with his head!

:heads:

Last thing we need is more out of position players!!!!!

Another titbit that lends credence to Silvestre joining us comes from United's official website (http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pageg ... id=6616425):

[quote]Arsenal are taking the Mik
Arsene Wenger has hijacked Manchester City’s bid to sign Mikael Silvestre. The Manchester United defender, 31, was undergoing a medical at neighbours City when he got a call telling him Arsenal were interested. Silvestre immediately abandoned the medical and hurtled down the M1 to meet Gunners boss Wenger and discuss terms. An Arsenal insider confirmed: “Arsene has been looking for experienced cover for Gael Clichy and he knows all about Mikael. Arsene has followed his career and the fact he is French is a bonus.â€

As back-up to Clichy I wouldn’t mind too much, but as centre back I would only really want him as back up to our back up (ie back up to either Kolo or Djourou depending on which one’s first choice alongside Gallas).

Cant see him being brought in as 1st choice to play alongside Gallas anyway to be honest. Gallas has pretty much always operated as the left-sided centre half (same as Silvestre - I think) so as a pairing the balance wouldn’t be great. I know some will say “what’s the difference, it’s still the same positionâ€
