So Tomas is there a big backlash against your manager and calls for him to be replaced yet ? I mean he had done a great job up until last night but there is no doubt that he fcuked up big time last night. I found it amazing that on Irish tv last night after the game they were calling germany an average team but prior to last night there were most people's favourites to win it out

Out of curiousity how do the german fans feel on the centre forward competition.......would they pick gomez or klose ? I

There is not one oppinion.. many want Gomez and (maybe as) many want Klose.

The truth is that neither is truly up to the job (Klose because of age; Gomez due to ability) and like Spain a wonderfully talented midfield suffers for the lack of a great forward.

Chances are we will qualify for a major tournament in my lifetime, I remain semi-confident despite the wound of losing to Russia in 2004 still hurting. It was a victory for performance-enhancing drugs and not football, not that I'm bitter or anything. I still remember being in the pub before the game and an 80-something bloke turning to me with a cigarette in his trembling hand and saying "I haven't smoked in 55 years but I'm so fucking nervous tonight I've gone through 20 already". Such is the nature of international football that we've gone from being in a pot with Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and San Marino to being a team with an outside shot of qualification in major tournaments. In reality once you get past the top 8 teams or so in Europe the standard is woeful.

The player on drugs (Titov) played for 59 minutes (out of the possible 180 minutes (match 1, match 2)) and hardly did anything of note. The way you said "it was a victory for performance-enhancing drugs and not football", one would think the whole team was on drugs

As I recall they were pretty gleeful to have caught him as it was a 'drugs cocktail' including several masking agents and was one that was used by the Russian Army at the time, so it was far beyond the realms of possibility that more than one of the players was one it, particularly as very few players actually get 'randomly tested'. I should warn you I've been stewing over this for 8 years and I haven't got any less bitter.

Actually no - I have watched gomez in the champs league and in a few internationals for germany whilst I havent seen much of klose this past year since he went to lazio so am interested to know what the german fans, who would watch them all the time, think on the subject Of course if they agree with me......

gomez is up there with fellow over rated players like Ribery, Ozil, Mata, Modric - pundits, media and supporters cream themselves talking about them, but if you watch them they ain't very good

Didn't Gomez have a ridiculous record before he started scoring at Bayern? As in his first 60 games he scored barely any and the next 60 he banged loads in or something like that? To be honest I don't watch much German football but if they had had a 'world class' striker they would have put the Madrid tie to bed at the Bernabeu and sailed past Chelsea. In both games there were several occasions when the ball fell to his feet in the box and a sharper player would have finished them but he bumbled his way into getting tackled.

Personally Löw is not on the edge for me. He has built a good team. Question will be why he did not replace Schweinsteiger for example; he was never fit during the tournament.

For me Gomez is from goal scoring point the best German striker, but not when it comes to Ball circulation and controlling the ball. So I guess it is a question which team you are playing against. Klose is running out of years.

Gomez is dogshit. If Klose's too old surely they'd have been better off playing Podolski up front and using one of their 101 other options out wide.

Ribery is still the most overrated footballer in living memory though. If he didn't have a face like a picasso I'm convinced no-one would ever mention him. I've never once seen him come close to justifying the hype.

i really think that Italy is one-man team with Mario in forward
