RIP Wilhelm Brasse
Wilhelm Brasse (3 December 1917 – 23 October 2012) was a Polish professional photographer and a prisoner in Auschwitz during World War II. He became known as the "famous photographer of Auschwitz concentration camp"; his life and work were the subject of the 2005 Polish television documentary film The Portraitist (Portrecista), which first aired in the "Proud to Present" series on the Polish TVP1 on 1 January 2006.
He died in Żywiec, at the age of 95.

Margaret Osborne duPont (born Margaret Evelyn Osborne, March 4, 1918 – October 24, 2012) was a former World No. 1 American female tennis player.
DuPont won a total of 37 singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles Grand Slam titles, which places her fourth on the all-time list despite never entering the Australian Championships. She won 25 of her Grand Slam titles at the U.S. Championships, which is an all-time record.

Jacques Martin Barzun (November 30, 1907 – October 25, 2012) was a French-born American historian of ideas and culture. He wrote on a wide range of topics, but is perhaps best known as a philosopher of education, his Teacher in America (1945) being a strong influence on post-WWII training of schoolteachers in the United States.
