Problem with that sid, is that when everyone was slating china 6-8 weeks ago, it was mad b.astard trump who spoke glowingly of china and their efforts to control the spread of the virus Trump fought against locking down the country, was pushing to open the country up again up to 10 days ago, and then this week tried to tell the world that he is all powerful and that he can open up the various states whether the individual states agree or not - now that he has been firmly shot down on the notion that he is all powerful, he is trying to deflect by blaming everyone else for the mess that his lack of action has caused

All that being said, someone pointed out recently that the sars disease and some other disease also originated in china, so I would 100% agree that they should be hit with a trade ban, but I would also support putting a travel ban on them too

Indeed the shit will hit the fan in epic proportions for China as the ill feeling against them will last a very long time and trade habits will need to change, their economy is all about mass production of 'stuff' and economically they will suffer even more than others from this, pretty odds on that their ecomony will collapse, and all those owing them money - the USA owe them a LOT, will tell them to do one (rightly!).

Covid-19/Sars cov-2 or whatever you want to call it has pulled us up on our many bad habits as a species, many people now saying mass air travel (and the growth in cruising) has to end, Bill Gates warned about these being the perfect vector for virus spread 5 years ago, honestly I was saying this before Bill and I'm sure many others were too.

Globalisation needs to die here not just because of Corona virus but because it needed to anyway, for the sake of the environment and ourselves as much as anything, it's going to hurt (a lot) but it is of our own creation and now we must deal with the mess we've created.

As for Trump, he is right that the WHO made a number of critical errors, but then again so did he, typical NPD response - I believe they call it 'projection', i.e. anything I do can't be my fault it must be YOU or someone else who caused it, they never ever accept blame for their mistakes and any opportunity to re-direct blame somewhere else is taken.

That is true, his own failings are indeed many but when it comes to global health then you're initial response is always going to be heavily influenced by the WHO. When their main man apparently has Jinping's dick stuck up his ass then you've got every right to take the hump with them imo.

The withholding of funding is tacky but it just highlights the fact that Trump comes at all this as a businessman and not some wishy washy liberal politician. He gets pissed off that the US provides the vast majority of funding and the rest of us sit on our thumbs - although I was pleasantly surprised at the UK contribution. Then again looking at the German, French and Japanese figures we might have been better off investing that in our own healthservice rather than trying to look good on the worldstage. It's a lot like the whole UN contribution issue where the US picks up the tab as usual. How do the French get away with it???

Jock, over here there is a 2km limit on travel for everyone with the exception of people travelling to work - yes it can be argued that these people are travelling to work, but can they seriously put up an argument for hiring them over hiring some of the thousands of locals that have lost their jobs over here ? Where is the practice of 14 day isolation ? They came into the country Monday and are already working Of course my position has always been that the airports should have been shut 6 weeks ago and that would have stopped this happening, but for some unfathomable reason that practice was never utilised I dont like the possibility of importing people into the country who have been operating under different coronavirus regulations than we have, simply because I wouldnt feel safe around them

I would bet my pension and life savings that the real figure of those infected in the UK is way way higher than what we are being told by the politicians. The economy is going down the shitter while we "save the NHS and save the government from looking bad" - oops sorry, that should be save lives - my mistake.

This current shower of twats have got it wrong at every step of the way. Flights, testing, infecting each other - we will never know whether herd immunity would have led to 500k deaths or not but from the moment the scientists threw that model into the ring our politicians shat themselves and ran. They definitely needed to use the modelling of somebody other than Imperial College who given their previous prediction history being a tad off the mark lack credibility. As far as I see it we have got one proper go at this lockdown as people will not put up with it again nor can we fiscally afford to. It will be interesting to see how the Swedes come out of this - I reckon there is a fair chance that their total deaths per head of population will be no higher than ours but then again it's not really about that. Mind you they will still have their economy ticking over.

Tbf there are thousands of care homes in the UK which would turn into a bureaucratic mess if the govt tried to include their figures in the daily hospital update. Let's face it the hospital figure is basically a baseline figure which they can use for their graphs to monitor trends so while it is sad that people are dying elsewhere those numbers wouldn't really contribute to the overall strategy at the end of the day. Those dying in care or at home will filter through into the ONS figures at some point.
