The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

One of these days I'm gonna start a "Thomas Vermaelen, Where Did It All Go Wrong?" thread. From that unbelievable first season to the crock of shite we see today. What happened?

He's on over £100k p/w Augie and was shunted out to make way for Mignolet as he is on far, far less.

Why wouldn't he? Courtois is the #1 for sure and Schwarzwer a good enough backup.

I wonder where he would he end up if he leaves. Fiorentina is the only place off the top of my head I could think of.
Schwarzer was released no?

I'd wager somewhere like PSG or Monaco, a rich club with relatively little competition - perhaps one of those Russian oil clubs in order to pick up ridiculously inflated wages doing absolutely nothing as his career slowly winds down?

No chance he starts ahead of Sirigu at PSG.

I thought Monaco were keeping Romero, but apparently, they aren't.

His confidence depleted and he never regained it - injuries didn't help, either.

Well TV is certainly VERY dodgy these days and I have no problem with him joining Man Ure! :barscarf:

Seems more likely he'll end up at Barca - which is preferable.

Topgoon understands that Reina fell out with Brenda so much that even when he came back from his loan,he made him train away from the 1st team and wouldn't give him a place on the bench, same with Brad Jones. They had their 3rd choice keeper on the bench instead.
Napoli did want him but he wouldn't drop his 100k a week wage demand and Brenda wanted no more loan outs.

Cech is apparently a 'done deal' to Monaco. But Monaco is a definite watch this space club as the owner is going through a divorce that's rumoured to be a world record settlement. It's quite possible there will be a fire sale if she cleans him out.

There are a lot of the big boys that need to get shot of players because of FFP and player quotas so expect some seriously good but surplus to requirements or starting to get old players to be sold for a song in the last few weeks of the window.

Mirror has us going after Daniel Agger, so we would lose TV5 to Barca and help the victims get a high earner of their wages bill whilst ending up with Vermalen-lite with as much of an injury record. No thanks.

Rather get Vlaar if we are going for old or Buyten, he's on a free or any of the two Greek CBs, neither were ball players but we're no nonsense CB's and would probably be cheap and on low wages.

Not sure about Aggar, a bit like TV his early career at Victims FC was very promising, but injuries and a loss of form have cost both of them their place..I imagine Stevie Me will tell him he is too good for the Arsenal bench.

Agger ? Vlaar ? Get the fcuk - I wouldnt want either of these and would rather have djouru than those two

If I'm wrong (and that in itself is a rarity  ) and we not finished our transfer business yet, then why have things gone so quiet ? The rumours of bender, khedira and even carvalho have dropped to a whisper from where they were. If tv5 goes (and I wish him luck IF he goes to barca) then we might buy another centre back, but if he stays then rodders will only have natalie's tits to look forward to on august 31st 8)

Topgoon doesn't want either but would rather the Vlaar if the World cup than the perma-crock that is Agger.

I doubt we are going to be blowing the bank for CB's, so cost wise I don't see that many available unless we get some young French kid who'd take a couple if yrs to acclimatise.
