Re: The ONLY Euro 2016 thread
I'm not saying that quelling this level of organised public disorder is easy - particular combined with a huge anti-terrorism operation - but what fucking planet are the French authorities on?
They might as well rock up with toy truncheons. I don't give a fuck how much it costs them, France bid for the tournament and France have a duty to effectively police it. Negligible segragation between fans in the ground is astounding and fans climbing over fences and barriers to attack others hasn't been seen on a stage like this in three decades since Heysel.
Anybody with half a brain could see that Marseille and Lens/Lille were huge trouble but the French police are obviously painfully undertrained and under-resourced. My dad went to lens in 2000 and just like others on here have said he told me it was a tiny little dump with awful policing and organisation and is a recipe for trouble. Yet we have England v Wales there (and in a shit tiny stadium no less) with Russia in Lille. Madness.
And whilst not condoning the disappointing yet predictable behaviour of a vast minority of English louts who can't handle their drink and narcotics, it is a world away from hordes of Russian paramilitary gangs marauding around handing out savage beatings to anybody they come across. Must be terrifying and undermines the idea that you can have a good time whilst safely avoiding trouble unless you want it.
Sadly it is going to take the death of a few innocent fans before UEFA take this anywhere near sufficiently seriously. And then they will bottle it because they hate conflict (hence why they regularly hand out such pitiful fines for disgusting racist incidents etc) and will not want to undermine the decision for FIFA to give Russia the world cup.

Agree with most of above, just one thing is uneasy with me is the fact that these Russians are powerfully built and know how to fight
But when has this contest ever been even?? so when Spurs mob up and attack Arsenal people like Ty and Claude its ok because they are mostly unfit??
Seems strange standards here....as if to say its not fair they are too strong and trained in fighting...only unfit drunks allowed?
Lets get it right in my opinion it has gone way too far...
Any more scenes like the last few days and should send them back home
apologies just sick of this, will be last post on the subject....Football only now

Re: The ONLY Euro 2016 thread
I think the point though is these Russian scumbags are capable of handing out a proper beating and are doing it alot more indiscriminately than your average pub carpark hero. Most traditional hooligans are "runners". They run in, throw a few punches and kicks, then run back out to the relative safety of their mob. Few people get seriously hurt that way, just the odd one or two that are unlucky. These Russian fuckers are proper fighters though, they will wade in and keep punching, kicking and iron barring people until they are out cold on the ground - and sometimes beyond.Redarmy wrote:northbank123 wrote:I'm not saying that quelling this level of organised public disorder is easy - particular combined with a huge anti-terrorism operation - but what fucking planet are the French authorities on?

Re: The ONLY Euro 2016 thread
one thing is certain - no way will Russia be thrown out of this tournament as they are hosting the next World Cup. I wouldnt be surprised if the French police were given clear orders not to arrest any Russian fans.
they can do what they like and know it.

Got to say, there hasn't been many but the quality of most of the goals in this tournament have been top drawer...only a couple of scuffed goals. Payet set the standard quite high but Pelle, Schweinstiger, Modric, Bale to name a few have matched it.

Re: The ONLY Euro 2016 thread
All but bales goal were good, bale wouldn't have scored that in a Sunday pub league game, if the keeper had stood still it would have hit him in the knee in the middle of the goal, diers was better but even then the keeper moved the wrong way before he took it, the goalkeeping in the tournament has been pretty shocking tbf.Nos89 wrote:Got to say, there hasn't been many but the quality of most of the goals in this tournament have been top drawer...only a couple of scuffed goals. So far, Cech and Buffon still look a cut above all the other keepers. The rest do have a mistake or two in them.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:All but bales goal were good, bale wouldn't have scored that in a Sunday pub league game, if the keeper had stood still it would have hit him in the knee in the middle of the goal, diers was better but even then the keeper moved the wrong way before he took it, the goalkeeping in the tournament has been pretty shocking tbf.Nos89 wrote:Got to say, there hasn't been many but the quality of most of the goals in this tournament have been top drawer...only a couple of scuffed goals. Thought the Wales and Germany games were the best 2 so far....
Wales for their spirit and just looking for Bale all the time, and Germany as look a good team, that Boateng at the back is top class

Have to say whoever said Ireland played awful hasn't got a scoobie
They certainly surprised me and were close to scoring some absolute corkers, they deserved to win that and ibra the Duke or whatever he likes to adorn himself with was shite.
Thought England played well and deserved the win.
Wales were lucky.
Germany look polished and I had Italy down to beat Belgium because they have the know how.
France looked average.
Germans to win it for me and England to maybe get out of group.
I hope the Welsh don't get the bother from the russians when the meet.
Fuck me what is it with the french police, I have seen the video that they tried to ban when one guy gets hit by at least 20 coppers yet apparently the russians were too organised and fast for them, too fucking big more like.
I wouldn't have been surprised to see the Marseille mayor take down the tricolor and put up the Russian flag

Re: The ONLY Euro 2016 thread
Strangely for a misery like me I am actually enjoying this tournament so far. Think the games have been played at a decent tempo, which you don't often get at world cups played in soaring temperatures. Also prefer a European atmosphere with big followings in the stadiums to drums and the samba beat or that awful vuvuzela thing etc.
Not sure whats happened to me but I cant even bring myself to complain about the punditry. ITV even had a woman footballer on their panel last night and I barely raised an eyebrow at this.
Actually scrap that, Jonathan Pierce is still an annoying fat c-nt with a terrible voice for TV commentary. And Aaron Ramsey's haircut is a shocker. Even the hideous looking Belgium squad wouldn't allow that monstrosity.
But other than that ... all good. We've even seen Wilshere, Rosicky and Vermaelan on a football pitch all in the same week. What are the chances?!

Spot on. That's what it comes down to: Easy to round up some of our less mobile fans and take a distant look at the tooled up Russian Army, wait till they've finished, then make a move.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Have to say whoever said Ireland played awful hasn't got a scoobie![]()

Never been to a game in France with Arsenal where we haven't had some bother, however minor, with these *word censored*.
As has been mentioned before, Lens 98/00 and Paris 94/95. Dear French Police, I forgot the Thank You cards. My apologies.
