THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

So if we don't strengthen the squad prior to the deadline for registering players, we stand a chance of not qualifying and missing out on the cash cow competition. This scenario gives us two possible outcomes. Either, as a result of our failure to qualify, we don't buy anyone because no one if quality will be interested in non-champs league football, and Wenger will say that there was no quality, or in a mad scramble he buys about 3 mediocre players to 'appease' the fans and we're left with more deadwood we can't shift for years.

The alternative is that he buys no one before this deadline, we qualify, he deludedly believes the squad is strong enough due to this qualification, and refuses to buy.

Lose lose really.

I CANT HANDLE ANOTHER YEAR OF WENGERS LIES

Post by REB »

i just cant  I love going to the arsenal and it costs a lot of money for me to go to games but this season I cant bring myself to look up flights, hotels etc and head over. people can say im not a supporter if they like as real supporters support the team win or lose,
people that know me will know my passion for the club, but its not the team im having a problem with its the whole concept , what is wrong with the manager that he cant see the problems ? when he comes out with stupid things like theres no one better then what we have then he is a liar, he has no respect for the fans and only cares about himself so why should I care anymore :?
been going to games since 1980 ,have seen some bad arsenal teams but never have we had a manager that lies all the bloody time . I will always love the arsenal but arsene show some respect for the fans.

rant over and mods delete if you wish.

[Err, you are a Mod! But true to my style, will leave running for a day or so for people to vent, then merge it with the Wenger thread - Quartz].

I mean seriously, if Clouseau buys nought of proper quality by 31 August there's GOT to be some serious repurcussions from the fans this time, right? There's got to be some real protests of some description, surely? Gazidis has as much stated that we have loads of money and we will spend, so there is simply NO EXCUSE this time right????

Or are we all just going to bend over and take it up the sphincter again for another season (no offence to queer gooners)?

There is one thing Wenger has got very very right this window so far. We have managed to get rid of most of our dead wood. His ruthless side has returned for players who were simply not good enough.
I dont believe that we wont sign anyone. It would just not maker sense but I cant see Liverpool selling Suarez to us. Maybe we have some secret deals going through.
It is clear from yesterdays game that the team needs about 3 new exceptional players and this is the only window that we could actually pay out big bucks.
I live in hope until the window ends but if he fails to add to the team then he has cut his own throat because this is his last chance.

What a load of tosh 'one thing that Wenger has got right' so he should be patted on the back for getting rid of the deadwood that he's created by stockpiling shit players on long lucrative contracts? How about the shit like Park and Santos who had their contracts paid up and ripped up? Yes let's all hail Wenger!!!

The flip side of the coin is all those players are still at the club taking the cash. Better that they are all gone. I am not a fan of Wenger by the way just pleased I dont have to watch Santos and co this season. We have 4 weeks of transfer left and I am staying positive until proved otherwise.

I don't know why we've made such a fuss of it the last few seasons, we should have been giving players like these away every summer.

I read your bigger post and agree with most of what you said but 4 weeks left and 12 gone surely the club would be a better place if and when any new players come in it should have been for pre season to get to know the older players, tactics worked on etc etc .

trolly dash expected once more in the last week getting players he either didn't want or doesn't need :?

Judge him in September.

Let's face it, they're not interested in challenging for the major trophies, so it doesn't matter if we get guys in July 1st or Sept 1st.

I feel similarly apathetic in my attitude towards making the effort to go. Even being away from home I always went, up until last year when I didn't go to a single home game for the first time in 20 years. And I don't have much yearning to go this time around.

Of course, the level of football is still better than at times in the past when I have gone but it's more an accumulation of things as the football was only part of the reason for going. The things that I used to like going to football for are dwindling year on year.

I think that club needs a new vision - as Wenger provided when he arrived - to capatilise on the good things that are in place (as Wenger expertly did).
