Coming from a Cypriot background where national service is still in force, from what I understand, national service is dependant on your father's origin of birth not your origin of birth. e.g. in my example I was on the draft list for the Cypriot national service, although i was born in the UK, which would've meant had national service still been compulsary in GB I would have been excluded from the GB draft list. With so many different ethnic varieties in GB now it would have to take into consideration their religious beliefs as well. The communities that you mention were established in this country pre WW2 and would have integrated into British society with more understanding than the ethnic groups who arrived in late '60's and '70's. Some of whom have not been able to integrate at all, IMO.

I am talking about introducing a National Service, but it would not be military. It would be helping the community.

It would be for all people born in the country or living in this country, perhaps age 18 - 19, perhaps it is needed much earlier age 14 - 15?

re point about tuition fees....too many people go to uni and it doesnt give them a better chance of getting on in life, in fact for many it can hinder them. man would be better getting apprenticeships and learning a trad as used to happen. getting more people into uni looks good on paper but in reality it doesnt help.

So, you mean a National Community Service that could be introduced nationwide during school holidays for kids between 14-15. That could work as long as it wasn't a government run scheme becasuse they would probably fuck it up. Although groups like scouts, cadets, guides all do things like this maybe it should make compulsary that all youths should register with one these type of groups for 6-12 months.

Maybe it will bring some consolation. Sickening events over there; I think the Vancouver and London riots just demonstrate that young people today (18-30) have absolutely little appreciation for how good they have it. They're just bored, and they don't know what a luxury it is in life to actually be able to be that way.
