The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We desperately need a DMF with quality and now a central defender.
Despite 4 signings Wenger has done very little to improve the squad depth.
A replacement goalkeeper for flappy, a replacement right back for sagna,
It's all too familiar

DM and CB needed now and we're only a week before the season starts. 1 first team signing. So much for the "fantastic summer" AKBs have been trying to ram down everyone's throats

First name to spring to mind for me too 8) If tighthole wenker wants to be a cheapo (again) and sign one player to fill two roles, then it absolutely has to be javi martinez - I would love it to happen which of course means that it wont

Mc seeing as you always calling me miserable, could you please refrain from highlighting the minimal net spend that we have done again this transfer window - to this point all the wenker wenkers have been able to shout from the rooftops about the club has turned the corner and the manager is showing a new willingness to splash the cash, but here we are now with the facts in front of us showing that it is the same old same old  Very hard for a man to be happy :(
Chelsea have spent £80M+ this summer and have a net spend of about £10M - I suppose because it's not Arsenal it must be good business

Everything is relative though isn't it ? They finished above us in the league (and gave us an awful hammering along the way  ) and strengthened the one area of the team that held them back last season. The point I was referring to is that this summer is again being lauded as the one where we finally cut the shackles off in the transfer market but why would this summer be any different to any of the recent ones ?

Btw if the chavs bought 80m worth of players then how is the net spend only 10m if they only sold 40m worth ? :?

A big part of the problem is how little transfer business we did last summer, which means once again we go in short.

I would like to see:

a. 3rd string CB - Calum, can cover at RB as well. Can also replace BFG eventually. Hayden as 4th choice CB

b. CDM - Pay up and get Carvalho

c. Back up RB - Promote Bellerin

d. Go after Cavani as well or another WC striker. We have money. I do think Cavani is over rated but better than OG and Yaya. TBH not many CF available now. I am ok with Sanchez, but I am not totally convinced we have solved our CF issue.

Really hope le boss tries something different this season when needed as in

4 3 3
4 4 2

or even 3 5 2

Cant be one track minded as he is accustomed to

Peace

yes but even I think Alexis, Chambers and Ospina are good buys mate. i'm not wild over debuchy but then Sagna offensively was very poor, and Chambers can play there anyway and is superb going forward....

we are not far off it - with the addition of Cavalho then it could might well be termed fantastic summer.

we are in a lot better place than i thought, this year is way better than the last three or four.

We are linked with a left back called....Daley Blind. Well this could be amusing if he turns crap for us.

But all things being right, two of those three signings will be back up players so has the team improved that much really ?

Are you including David Luiz though for £50m Augie, Guys easily forgettable but £50m is likely to be nearly as bad a flop as Torres was for the Chavs.

BTW- Raggy THANKS

Daley Blind is definitely off,the coach said earlier today that he's training away from the main group because he is off.

He is off to Manure to link up with Pug dog face. He would be excellent as back up to Gibbs which with his injury record means He'd be our first choice in a month. We'd actually be able to change our formation and play a back 3 of Kos/BFG/Chambers or an other. He and Debuchy could play as wing backs. We'd be solid at the back and still enough attacking verve going forward.

He's off to the mancs.

BTW we also got 1.5m for Henri Lansburys sale on to Burnley so o far:

Vela: 12m
Fabregas 5m
Djourou 2.5m
Lansbury 1.5m
Eisfield 1m
Verm 15m

We've made 37m so far from mainly sell ons & we spent 68m in fees so 31m in excess.

We should have atleast another 20m in transfer budget.

Doesn't he play down the left side like Shaw?

He does but rumours coming out of old crappford is the manager doesn't fancy him, hence the public rebuke about his fitness. Shaw would be back up to Blind.
