THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Never heard that before.  Always next season. The doom mongers have being calling it for years... eventually they'll be right of course because Sp*rs are one of the best teams in England, but I think you should wait to see what happens to Bale and who we sign before you say we are about to be surpassed by a team that hasn't finished above us for nearly 20 years.

Good thing the window hasn't closed then. Does anyone GENUINELY believe we won't spend anything before the window closes? honestly? - I think it's a certainty that we will.
Oh, he WILL spend, mate. But it will be £8million on the next Song/LegoHead/Forehead/Camel/Diaby/Mannone. And it will probably be a last day of the transfer window panic buy or two. :|

You beat me to it DB,

Of course he will spend, last minute panic buys as he realises that our squad is piss poor and lacks strength. But we all know that any signings made late will be fairly weak, mediocre and probably French. No 'big' team is likely to sell a super quality player at the last second without being able to sign a replacement.......except most of the small French clubs of course and Wanger does like to boost the French football economy every window!!

The author of the article implied that those who do not support Wenger, can not call themselves true 'Gooners'. I made the mistake of opening a link a mate sent me which was an article on Untold Arsenal written by Tony Attwood. It may even have been the same article you read. The article was saying we didn't need to sign players and that anyone who wanted big signings was just being dictated to by the media and couldn't think for themselves (oh the irony).

This Attwood guy tries so hard to portray himself as an intellectual who can think outside the box. He so badly wants to be seen as a cut above. But his article was full of childish references to the AAA (Anti-Arsenal Arsenal). He must have said AAA about a dozen times. How juvenile is that? There is no AAA but sometimes people need to create an enemy to feel like they are fighting for a cause.

Another thing about people like Attwood - they like to belittle the views of critics of Wenger by claiming they are only interested in trophies and cannot see the more important work Wenger has been doing. As though critics of Wenger cannot see the bigger picture. Yet it is because of the trophies Wenger has won that the likes of Attwood worship him in the first place - so spare me the holier than thou shite about trophies not being important you condescending pricks!

People list the trophies Wenger won to defend him and show how great he is - then when he wins nothing for 8 years, trophies are not important all of a sudden. Funny that!

(And yes, I know I shouldn't ever have read anything wriiten on Untold Arsenal ... )

Lads, we have had issues with Attwood before so let's not let this thread descend into abuse aimed at him, ok?

Apologies DB10 - that must have been before my time on here as I didn't know about that.

Wenger said his biggest regret was not signing Eto'o (and a few Chelski players, Drogs and Cech I think)
hope he can make up for that and sign Eto'o. He's a proper winner.

I wonder if Wenger's position on "financial doping" etc and consequent reticence to spend now would have become so entrenched had it been United that romped to the title in 2005 and 2006 and not Chelsea?

Had never been on that site before, and after seeing your post thought I'd take a look. Fuck me, a little bit of me died while reading both the posts and comments sections  .

Arsenal has officially been taken over by the loons, and Wenger & FFP will lead us all to salvation.
