SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich on a five-year contract. The Brazilian was also wanted by Arsenal. We'll bring you more on this story shortly.

I agree Klopp seems good but why are his best players keen to leave?
Nuri Sahin (2011/2012) - Real Madrid are the richest club in the world and arguably the biggest too. Not many players reject them.

Shinji Kagawa (2012/2013) - Man Utd are a bigger and richer club than Borussia, also more popular back in Japan.

Mario Gotze (2013/2014) - Bayern are a bigger and richer club than Borussia and Guardiola personally wanted him:

He [Klopp] continued: "Götze has gone because he is Guardiola's personal chosen signing and he wants to play with Guardiola, in his style. I can't make myself 15cm shorter or start speaking Spanish. I cannot preach a football based on quick transitions and then [suddenly] start playing tiki-taka." Source

Lewandowski (2014/2015) - he probably wants to go to Bayern for the same reasons as Gotze.

Mats Hummels (????) - if he does leave, it'll be for a bigger club:

He [Hummels] told Sport Bild: "My father and I reject 99.9 per cent of all clubs around the world when they let their interest be known. But Barcelona is one of two or three clubs that would make me listen to them if they did make a move for me. I would have to look at it, but I am not saying that I want to go." Source
So he's a good coach but not a manager.
Well he IS a coach not a manager. Just because Wenger is both doesn't mean that's the case at every club.
Besides you probably forget that Dortmund just recently became a top club. 2007/08 they finished 13th and even 2010/11 they didn't play in the CL. They just don't have the money to pay top wages yet.

Because they can earn more money somewhere else.
But what happenend?

Nuri Sahin went to Real Madrid, then on loan to Liverpool, was not happy => back at BVB
Kagawa went to ManUtd, not so happy, he wants to come back
Götze went because he could double his salary to Munich, Pep wanted Neymar
Lewandowski will double his salary at Munich next season, but is not sure if he should go to them because of the way Guardiola is playing without a classic central attacking player

Wolfsburg finished 11th last season, and are hardly a big club, so something is really odd here.

As much as I want us to sign good players, this guy's decision sends alarm bells off about what his mindset is like. World class players just don't go to Wolfsburg if they have even an ounce of ambition, surely? :?

That tells me he's either not as good as people are saying or he's got a very peculiar mindset. And this whole theory that he needs first team football so he can get in the Brazil team is great and all, but is that really helped by playing for a mid-table team who aren't in the CL? - it's hardly a platform to get you noticed, is it? :?

Very odd.

Kicker and other sources are reporting that the transfer fee is around 15 to 20 Millionen
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bund ... sburg.html
Gustavo will get a 5 years contract
Wages around 7 Millionen Euro per year, 135.000 Euro per week, 115£ :banghead:  :rubchin:

Cheers,
Thomas

It could also be that Gustavo told Arsenal what he wanted a week ago and got fed up waiting for Wanger to stop dithering over paying him half of what Wanger 'earns' a week!
What a shambles, we need a new manager and new negotiator, DESPERATELY!!!

To be fair, if Le Arsehole is worth £115k a week, Gustavo's worth double that amount.

is Wanger the Dick Law replacement?
Is there a theme in our negotiators names?
Since when did Wenger earn over £10M?

you can have your own opinions, you can't have your own maths

Does that really sound plausible to you? :?

Sounds like you've shoehorned a Wenger rant in instead.
