The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why on earth should we sign Casillas?

To play DM of course 8)

Pod linked to Galatasaray. Would make sense being nearly 30, slow and pretty average. Need to clear him & Arteta off.

Yeah. Campbell has already usurped him for me.

We'll see who'll be laughing when Campbell has established himself with us while Podolski's stinking it up elsewhere.

Draxler has told friends he wants to join us. Interesting albeit a position we dont need strengthening.

Source?

If he did sign him it'd be with a view to converting him to a striker, according to Rafa Honigstein a couple of months back.

BTW we also got 1.5m for Henri Lansburys sale on to Burnley so o far:

Vela: 12m
Fabregas 5m
Djourou 2.5m
Lansbury 1.5m
Eisfield 1m
Verm 15m

We've made 37m so far from mainly sell ons & we spent 68m in fees so 31m in excess.

We should have at least another 20m in transfer budget.

You can factor in the fact that we have saved around 3m a year on Sagna's wages and probably around 1.5m for Jenkinsons wages.

Saw a story that said that if Man Ure don't get Vidal they are going for Alex Mong........that would be the funniest signing of the decade if he went there!!

Draxler is not coming, just this week he said he isn't yet good enough to be going to a big club and he would prefer to stay one more year at Schalke, which is German for "I have signed das big fat contract to join Fc Hollywood next year, but shhh tell no one.

Topgoon reckons over the next 9months, Max Meyer will be worth watching. Topgoon thinks he's as good as Draxler at 19 and is two footed. Could solve that continual left sided problem we have especially as Poldi's not getting any younger.

Because we're abandoning our attempt to sign all the attacking midfielders in world football, it's far easier to sign all the goalkeepers :barscarf: Gutted we missed out on Reina.

They've both looked on the way down in recent times.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Casillas
