Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Lol forget Guastavo if he wanted £115k/week.
Still a bit iffy that he went to world beaters Wolfsburg. Wasn't gonna be good enough for us with that mindset. We need the fighters up for the cause not mugs who shy away from challenges and settle for mediocrity.

I'm minded to agree with g88ner here. Although I'm disappointed (but not surprised) we've missed out on him it's difficult to get your head round this move. Yes he's reportedly on £115k a week but although we wouldn't have matched that if we were actually in for him we would have still offered him a good wage.g88ner wrote:Wolfsburg finished 11th last season, and are hardly a big club, so something is really odd here.kiwomya wrote:SSN:Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich on a five-year contract. The Brazilian was also wanted by Arsenal. We'll bring you more on this story shortly.
As much as I want us to sign good players, this guy's decision sends alarm bells off about what his mindset is like. World class players just don't go to Wolfsburg if they have even an ounce of ambition, surely?![]()
That tells me he's either not as good as people are saying or he's got a very peculiar mindset. And this whole theory that he needs first team football so he can get in the Brazil team is great and all, but is that really helped by playing for a mid-table team who aren't in the CL? - it's hardly a platform to get you noticed, is it?![]()
Very odd.
I can't believe that Wolfsburg are the best club that would have given him a lucrative contract and first-team football guarantee - there's obviously something else going on inside his head to persuade him to go and knock around for a mid-table club whilst watching his ex-teammates stick in 4 or 5 goals every week and not play in continental competition. It's not really going to do wonders for his World Cup prospects and unless Wolfsburg make a massive improvement this season he's relying on reputation to get picked.
I heard him make reference on at least two different occasions to "personal and professional problems" at Bayern (which wasn't really commented on). Something smells a bit funny about this and let's not forget he's also overlooked Napoli as well as Barcelona reportedly, and he was hardly going to be short on offers.

Maybe it was as simple as him wanting to stay in Germany.northbank123 wrote:I'm minded to agree with g88ner here. Yet another quality target gone but dont worry we will be active in the last few days (even though clubs will now hold us to ransom as they will know its a panic buy) Who the fuck are we going to play against villa we have no fit players no new signings and the squad players we had have all been sold for a pittance. Its beyond belief that this has been allowed to happen but then again this is wenger the great almighty one who can do no wrong.

Or maybe he didn't want to play for a wanker like Wenger?kiwomya wrote:Maybe it was as simple as him wanting to stay in Germany.northbank123 wrote:I'm minded to agree with g88ner here. Bendtner and Dimpong.... they'll be highly motivated for the game... Are Villa still 8-1 to win tomorrow???n7gooner wrote:Yet another quality target gone but dont worry we will be active in the last few days (even though clubs will now hold us to ransom as they will know its a panic buy) Who the fuck are we going to play against villa we have no fit players no new signings and the squad players we had have all been sold for a pittance. i dont dispute this.Swifty wrote:[well if you read my post you will see you've missed the point. The common view is that the powers that be are satisfied with financial security above footballing success - my point is that you can't guarantee financial security WITHOUT footballing success - it is a short term view. Our current international brand goodwill which generates the $$ will not survive continuing underperformance on the playing field. If we start to be mid table wanderers then our star will fall as quickly as City's has risen. PS the 'motherland' - give me a break, it's 2013 not 1913!
all im arguing about is the point you made the scousers are a bigger global brand than us. imo we are a bigger, far bigger, global brand than the scousers.
of course our brand will go the same way as theres,(and with less of the goodwill and loyalty scene in the likes of aus and europe amongst the older fans where liverpool have a strong brand), if we continue to struggle for 4th each year.

Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs
Rambo Wilshere
Cazorla(or Rosicky)
Walcott Giroud Podolski
we'll play our first team, minus injured Arteta.
If we need an attacking sub we'll bring on Ox.
Bench is worryingly weak but personally I'm delighted at the players we sold and think we got good prices.

Being reported down here in Australia is that after releasing 17 players and bringing in 1 Arsenal only have 11 fit players for the season opener against Villa at the weekend

I listed 12 in the post above, 13 with Jenks...
Are there new injuries?
some of Gnabry, Eisfeld, Zelalem, Akpom, Hayden, Bellerin will be on the bench

So much for our transfer record being broken not once, not twice but thrice!

May well be - perhaps his missus has his balls in a vice or he's just didn't fancy having to learn another language etc but Wolfsburg is still over 600km away from Munich and it seems a little odd that somebody who went on loan to a different continent at the age of 20 would suffer from homesickness.kiwomya wrote:Maybe it was as simple as him wanting to stay in Germany.northbank123 wrote:I'm minded to agree with g88ner here. Provided Ramsey is fit and you think its ok for a club like us to have 1 fit first team player on the bench (2 if ramsey is fit)
