I said a couple of weeks ago that we have on of the worse squads in the PL AND WAS TOLD I AM HAVING A LAUGH but this proves my point.

our squad is indisputably, ridiculously "thin"
but worst in the PL is a quality judgement. And I disagree with it.
The worst disastrous season that squad could have would still be top ten.
It's one of the shortest on experienced footballers in the Prem but we still have some excellent players.

The problem is though we will have people getting minor niggles, after which our medical team will get hold of them and they'll contract injuries unseen by any previous medical science and miss the rest of their careers.

We desperately need not only quality, but quality in quantity. Unfortunately we've dithered for so long the list of potential targets is rapidly dwindling - and so is the time available to bring them in.

This is why we are getting unknowns on trial to fill all the holes we have as there are so many look at our reserves it's a shambles .

Another benefit of getting rid of dross is that Wenger can no longer claim to have great depth in the squad and reel off shit player after shit player - he has to accept that our first-team squad is nowhere near big enough.

Although in reality he'll probably just turn to including youngsters in that squad even more.

Yep, the old "internal solutions" platitude will hove into view at the first sign of an injury crisis.

Good old "Internal solutions". It's amazing the amout of neat little PR phrases that Wenger has to dress up his cowardice and lack of ambition.

chippy is right that I'm not a happy camper so far
my opinion has shifted slightly 'darker' - used to say I'd give Wenger one season of failure (no CL)
that's no longer the case. He's rejected chances to spend (bravely in a way - if unsure save money for the next manager)
but he's basically 'ALL IN' that he can deliver without splashing the cash
if he did miss out on top 4 i would now favour a new manager.



But that's an end of the season line in the sand, not an end of the window one

I disagree with our failure to spend last Jan. I'm surprised we still haven't bought and I'm beginning to doubt we will add sufficient players.

its gone way beyond a joke at this stage, wenger has the money, has had all summer with no excuse of a world cup/euros and has bought no one , I for one cant wait for him to go and get a manager in who wants the club to win things and not count 4th place as a successful season.

Here, here Reb.... Wenger has not only had money this transfer window but has constantly had money in the previous 17 odd windows and decided through his own arrogance and stubborness not to spend.... I for one can't wait for the smug fucker to crash and burn this season!

It's not criminal if we end up signing Suarez, Gustavo, Julio Cesar and a quality defender.... if we did that, people would say it was good work.

I'm not saying that's likely, but until the window closes it's difficult to judge. At the moment we look incompetent though...

You have to reluctantly accept that we're confined by availability - hence Gustavo would be a great move even though it's quite late as there have hardly been a plethora of available quality players for those who feel DM is still a priority. But so many good strikers have gone at fair prices and Julio Cesar has practically been begging for us to sign him for months - if we were going to sign him it would have happened a while back.

It all comes down to Wenger's belief - contrary to all evidence - that the market doesn't really kick off until the last week and that's the best time to buy. It's complete bollocks. Especially looking at the ridiculously long list of attacking players that have moved already, clubs are probably more settled than in your average summer window and Wenger will act astounded when nobody wants to sell their key player at a modest price in late August.

The other problem is that we'll only really target players who are unsettled/up for sale. Looking at our three signings last year their clubs were all desperate to sell. Higuain was explicitly up for sale, Suarez is clearly unsettled and we've relied on that as a tactic. You're severely limiting yourself if you're only shopping for those sorts of players, and the list gets particularly thin the later in the window it gets as the players have either been sold or accepted their lot.

I agree, northbank it seems absurd that we've passed on so many forwards (Tevez, Soldado, Higuain, Negredo, Jotevic) and it seems bizarre that we're chasing Suarez, a guy who seems a long shot at best.

Obviously, we may have been gazumped by Citeh for Jotevic and Negredo, but they got the pair of them (£23m + £20m) for roughly what we're offering for Suarez, so at the very least we could have created a bidding war with Citeh and made them pay over the odds.

I can't see us signing Dzeko or Rooney either, but until September 2nd it's all just guess work and hot air. All will soon become clear.

And of course, we also need other players as well, so it looks like a complete balls up at the moment

No matter how average they are, why let Miguel, Forehead etc leave until we have replacements?

Its madness, the first 11 can beat anyone on their day, but we have as much depth as a babys first bath and that is just not acceptable really.
