Arsenal are ready to challenge Manchester United for German centre-half Mats Hummels.
So far United have failed to agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund for the World Cup winner, with the German club wanting a sum in excess of £25million.
Arsenal, though, could come up with the cash after the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona on Saturday.

Yes, yes and once again yes!
£10m for Hummels?! Make it 12 and sign him up!

Is the wife really giving you such little attention at home that you have to come on here and post this sort of nonsense?

Song?

He had one good season where he kept positional discipline.
He could tackle, and make spectacular passes.
BUT... he gave away a lot of free kicks and too often charged upfield leaving a huge hole in the middle of the pitch.
I think this was to order, that Wenger encouraged this, but I saw him as a squad player who was given a regular berth rather than a genuine long-term starting option.

DMC?

American bloke who used to rap, had a penchant for wearing Adidas trainers without laces.
Often hung around with a chap named Run, who became a Reverend.

Defensive Midfielder?

What I reckon we could do with before the season starts for real.

Sanogo - a nice lad I'm sure he is - And tries his Very VERY best - But, he has the touch of an off-balance trembling junkie smack head - he has NO CONTROL over his first touch - what you seem to Not Understand is that we ALL wish he DID have a great first touch, (along with great balance, equally good with both feet, great burst of pace, and the natural ability to pick a pass and the strength of a Drogba) But he Doesn't....The times I have seen him 'swipe' at the ball and completely miss it by a country mile - If he were playing in a conference team then well ookaaaaaaaaaaay, But, he is playing for The Arsenal - a team where all squad players are on at least £35k a week, because they are considered(by todays mometary standards) worthy of such a large amount - Considering he managed to bundle and bungle in 4 goals last week - four goals that even Stephen Hawkins could have tucked away AND celebrated more eloquently -means nothing - the lad appears to be Physically Dyslexic...sad but true.

I agree.

I also feel we should field Szczesny at left back, play Arteta in goal and shove Monreal up front.

You honestly feel that we should play Sanogo as our defensive screen against City?
In a worthless throwaway dustin bin lid 'competition'? God no, lets not jeopardize that by trying something new.
I agree it is a glorified friendly, but the bloke is barely a striker and I'm not sure that Wembley is the occasion for him to wheel out his best Makelele impersonation.
Oscar v Arteta. Gee I wonder who will win that confrontation.

People forget that Yaya Toure trialed for Arsenal as a CF.
So therefore Sanogo can do the same because they've got the same first name and are both tall and black.

Bit of a whizz at Football Manager aren't you?

Perhaps your poor eyesight is the reason for some of your increasingly bizarre pronouncements then.

It is an innate part of the survival instinct to assess what one see's - the size, shape, colour of something - to say you don't 'see it' is not quite true, you may not consciously include it in your 'reading, registering and assessing a situation or other being' - which of course is how it should be, as we try to remove those old instilled lenses we were taught to see through - But to say you don't see his colour - is n fact an insult to the man.

If you were to go out on any street and ask a passer-by to describe him - they may hesitate about mentioning the fact that he is black - because of not wanting to appear having any racist attitudes in how they percive someone - But it is part of how he is seen and recognised, furthermore you seem - by imlication of your words - negate the obvious that he is black - personally I don't give a shyte about his colour, creed, shape, height etc etc - What I AM interested in (as I would hope all Gooners are) is can he play football?

*For many hundreds of years Western and European cultures have been indoctrinated with racist attitudes and beliefs which sadly and regrettably not disappear overnight - as much as we want it to.*

[edit]
I remember listening to a prog on Radio4 about different cultures and beliefs and it came around to how a) we see, percieve and describe our self, and how we then use the same criteria when percieving another person - and we use the exct same 'tools' - it may not be conscious, but it something we do none the less - because of the indoctrination we have undergone, and that we are slowly changing within our psyche (personal, social and cultural).

anyway.

Have we signed a DMF yet?

I don't recall ever thinking he was a spud - if he was I'd just call him a *word censored* and ignore him.
Though his posts over the past few months appear to be somewhat different in their slant than what I recall them to be - last season - maybe I missed it???

Also just because someone is a WUM - which he appears to be by making such statements about Sanogo - doesn't necessarily mean he is automatically a spud - there have been quite a few 'arsenal fans' on here before who are simply WUM's - they enjoy winding people/anyone up...but they weren't 'spudscum'.

Black isn't a race, it's a description.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure I've read derogatory comments from you on Ozil's googley-eyedness which is a feature he has as much control over as the colour of his skin. How does that register on your moral compass Poly Toynbee?
