Olivier Giroud - Another Alan Smith or "Le Chapman"?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Drogba was absolutely unremittingly terrible in his first year
Chelski fans thought him useless, he was referred to as flop of the season
its not a high bar

flash gunner wrote:Not sure what a good return is and i don't think he has done badly for us this season but i don't think he is a good enough standard for Arsenal if we want to challenge for serious trophies. I dont dislike him and he does work very hard but i just think he's an average player :?
This ^.

Would also add that even a blind man can see he is not a first striker, he is not a natural finisher and has absolutely no pace, but he is a hard worker and can win the ball in the air and is good at laying it off too. Was impressed that after initially fucking up his touch for Monreal's goal he had the wherewithal and guts to get his foot in where it hurt and lay the ball back to his team mate. The likes of Song, LegoHead, Gervinho, Diaby, Camel etc would have just stood there looking sheepishly at the ball after their fuck up.

If Wenger would stop acting the bollocks and play 4-4-2 with Podolski feeding off Giroud I think we would score a fuckload more goals. Podolski is our best most natural finisher and Wenger plays him out wide!

I think we have gotten a reasonably good return from Giroud in his first season, particularly as Wenger is not playing him to his obvious strengths. Would he get in the 98 or 02 or 04 teams? Not a fucking hope. But then not one single player at Arsenal today would - and I include Jack in that. I'll qualify that by stating that it's as Jack currently is - he may develop to that level of quality player but he ain't there yet.

Don't think vanStaplecunt makes those teams...
Anelka's directness and pace in behind was a key ingredient
don't even worry about the other two

I think Villa is good enough to hit the ground running but he also could have an adaptation period
or a new league dip (Hazard, who I rate highly, has done)

Maybe I'm just reading the wrong posts, but all I've noticed SteveO is you trying endlessly to wind JD up when all he's doing is commenting on Arsenal  :? . So surely, by definition, the WUMming is coming from you... sorry if I've misread the situation though, but that's how I'm seeing it with my impartial eyes... :o :?

I know JD's style of writing isn't to everyone's taste, but that doesn't make it okay to intentionally try and wind him up. Perhaps - if you really can't stand his posting - just ignore his posts or block them altogether... you have that as an option you know!

g88ner.
It's almost a love/hate thing, but Steve0 has valid points, as does JD and his points to suit his arguments.
JD likes his stats, but let's the point go when he is disproved and Steve0 is like your family pitbull that you trust to hang on in there until the surrender.

I’m not SuperfanJD’s biggest (super)fan ( :-P ) but I have to agree with g88ner. Taking the piss is one thing but there are a couple of posters on here that are now following JD from thread to thread purely to wind him up. THAT is WUM behaviour. If you don’t like his opinions block him. Simple as. Everybody has the right to express their opinion on here, no matter how much we might disagree with it.

SteveO, one last time, because I’m sick to my fucking arse explaining it to you – Red Member was NOT banned for his opinions, he was banned for continual WUMing and Trolling. He was warned repeatedly, banned temporarily and finally as a last resort banned permanently because he refused to stop WUMing and trolling. This was a collective decision discussed at length by all the mods. Maybe you didn’t see the half of what he did but it got to a stage where he was also taking up an inordinate amount of our time dealing with complaints about him, asking him to modify his behaviour and having to delete posts and threads etc etc fucking etc. He was banned for exactly the same reason MadMartyOCD was banned; NOT his opinion but repeated WUMing and Trolling.

g88ner, I can only read ickle Stevie's tear-stained tantrums when they're quoted,
he def isn't winding me up. Its a bit like a stalker (post restraining order) following you at a distance via binoculars. Almost endearing.

JD i dont disagree with g88ner or DB10 but posts like this one do nothing but pour petrol on the fire. Dignified silence would be a good start from you and i hope all this shit will disappear :?

I can highly recommend the self-imposed restraining order.

good plan, sounds the best option
that and Gervinho winning the Balon D'Or I can see happening any minute now
Stalker Steve and MyopicMcDoweel should just go the Crowlogne route - block me

(then secretly click on each new post,
only to vaguely regret it) :barscarf: :barscarf:
