The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Topgoon believes we will not spend a single penny until the cash cow that is the group stage is secured.

If it isn't then,Poldi or Cazorla will be sold on August 31st and we will bring in 2 cut price players on loan probably a defender and a striker. If we get lucky and a Dm is surplus to some moneybags clubs FFP's requirements, like an Alonso or Rabiot then we'll get one of those too. But only if they are going cheap or free.

The oracle that is topgoon has spoken, so all you Kellie Maloneys stop wetting your panties and spend your time praying that Demba has a sh*t game,Oyazkhup doesn't come back and bite the hand that trained him and the Postman et al deliver the goals. :barscarf:

If you need further proof,go back to AW's press conference before the Emirates cup. He said plenty of deals will be done between August 15-30th. That sounds very much like a wait and see policy. He went all drunken sailor with his wallet and then went back to his usual caution. Bit schizophrenic to us, but did we honestly believe a man throws away his philosophy, ridiculous as it may be to us, in one summer.

The beach balls didn't hit his head that hard.

Can't believe she's married to Sam Matterface. There's no bloody justice.

On the DM issue, I thought we actually played slightly differently on Sunday. Jack and Arteta both lay quite deep and we also seemed to get back as a team a lot better. Perhaps that's been looked at in Pre Season.

Def need a centre back though. As mentioned, for me Vermalen should not have been let go until we had one on the way.

In the eyes of wenger, why buy when:

arteta could be our dm
chambers could be our cb replacement for tv5
the postman could be the answer to our need for a quality striker

See. Problem solved according to the fucking delusional world of arsene wenger.

So why did we get Dubuchy when we had Jenkinson? Or Alexis when we've got Walcott? :o

What kind of reasoning is that? I'm talking about DM, TV5 replacement and a quality striker. The two players you pointed out do not fall into any of the mentioned category. Nice try you AKB

I can honestly envisage a fourth placed season including a 7-1 win for us, and a 6-3 loss for us.
wash, rinse, repeat

it's like groundhog year

how many years on the trot have most fans and pundits basically agreed on 2-3 areas the team needs strengthening and we go into the season without such replacements?

seems like about 3 or 4 years running.

and I don't think we've strengthen on the back line , we've mostly replaced what we lost.

I think we need a CB and DM minimum to maintain a proper title challenge. A striker wouldn't go amiss either as only Giroud, Sanogo (still raw) and possibly Sanchez can play number 9. Perhaps Walcott at a push.

Looking at the official page is interesting. Three goalies in first team squad now, but interesting Bellerin and Miguel have not been promoted. I thought at least one of them would get a chance.
