Not that id be having a parade if we signed Tiote, but surely buying a player with PL xp to have in the squad is at this stage a better bet then having a squad short on players? Naturally we wouldnt be in this scenario if we just bought what we actually needed early but needs must at this stage no?

The guy is absolute dogshite - I dont see the point in getting rid of shite like bendtner and then bringing in other shite players just cos they have prem experience :?

Jeez...i quite liked Barry ...i thought at times he got a raw deal...sorry..back on topic!

Like i say...i equally wouldnt be impressed with the signing...but come the depths of november and we're dragging the reserves for a fill in cause all the usuals are injured....it may not be that bad of an option, but im basing this on Wenger not actually doing the right thing and spending what needs to be spent. If its a case of Tiote or nobody would you rather we didnt make the signing......only as i type it im realising its a tough choice

I remember being laughed at when I suggested Shane Long last January. I've always thought he has the tools to be a very good player. Not first choice, but maybe over time.

Tiote very average.

We have 10 central midfielders, if we add to them I want quality not just a squad filler, unless it is a very cheap option.

This list I would like to add to with a top level defensive midfielder:

Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, Flamini, Arteta, Oxalde-Chamberlain, Chambers, Coquelin, Hayden, Toral.

Cheick Tiote, Shane Long, Alvaro Negredo

NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Tiote isn't average, he is shit, Shane Long is in no way good enough to play for an ambitious club, Negredo despite his great early form looks average. Why buy him when we already have Giroud. Dzeko yes but we could never get him.

Thank goodness Tiote is only on the spoof news website caughttalkingbollocks.com

Always rated shane long - he actually would be a very good foil for sanchez if we played two up top cos he is pacy and runs the channels well, plus he is excellent in the air 8) He wouldn't be in my top 10 or anything but he would be as good as giroud and infinitely better than le postman
National bias kicking in there Augs? :D

Longy is nowhere near good enough for ARSENAL.

5 or 6 years ago I would have agreed but with this squad and this system I no longer believe that :(

Tiote hasn't got the legs for an Arsene team, plus he's bollocks so I hope that this one is pure paper talk.

Should dust off the cheque book and offer Bayern crazy money for Martinez but if we can't get a top-drawer player I'd rather have nothing than shit like Tiote.

Plus, he scored the equaliser in the 4-4 and it still troubles me.

And that's the point really. This squad. As much as I've defended Giroud on here I know he would never have gotten a game at any point between 1997 and 2004. I would say Giroud has done very well all things considered but being brutally honest he is not good enough for an Arsenal that want to win the PL and/or the CL. Ditto Diaby, Gibbs, Wilshere (as he is now), Monreal, Flamini, Sanogo... But that's the team we have.

Long could do okay in the current team and current system but agree he is not good enough for what Arsenal SHOULD be looking for.

I got a lot of stick for suggesting Long in the Jan window (Answering an AKB saying "no one was available" in the transfer window... - still think it was a big mistake, we were v lucky really to have won the FA Cup with Sanogo second in line to Giroud- Long is way way better than Sanogo or Long, and at the moment better than Campbell too- probably.

When there was talk of United spending 25m on Tiote 2 years back Mike Ashley did his best to force a sale. Remember him given a completely unprovoked interview declaring it would be very difficult to keep hold of him if a big offer came in although of course he wanted to keep him

Now he's genuinely recognised as being a hothead lacking in discipline and with limited footballing ability. Ashley must be livid they didn't manage to cash in.
