They have went and bought Papiss Cisse for £10m. The 2nd top scorer in the Bundesliga behind Goetze even whilst playing for a midtable club was available for £10m.

Sorry mate, but where did you get this from? Everywhere I look it says Gomez has 16 in the league to Cisse's 9, Cisse is 9th in Bundesliga scorers.
That said, I am not in any way defending Wenger not addressing an obvious problem.

Supposedly he has turned down a new £100k a week contract at City so the poor old Arsene would be having kittens at the thought of paying him a 6 figure sum every week...

Seen that story too

Would be an ideal way for rvp to test wenger and the club ahead of his contract talks.......suggest buying de jong then sit back and watch their reaction - if they decline or make next to no effort to buy him then rvp will get a final confirmation of how little ambition they have and how little effort they are prepared to put in to keep him

How to do transfers, the Wenger way:
January 3: begin negotiations
January 7: agree fee
January 11: backtrack on fee and try get an extra £2 mil, even though you have £50 mil in your back pocket.
January 18: continue to haggle over an extra mil
January 24: having agreed a fee, do not deposit money in account
January 29: watch in dismay as Ebbsfleet come in and steal the player under your nose
January 30: wheel out Gazidis and Wenger to remind that "we cannot compete with Ebbsfleet"
January 31: sell a player or two at midnight. Don't replace. Pass go and collect an extra 200.
Continued up with
February 1 - bemoan the "dizzying prices" being paid and play amateur economist making predictions that football can not escape the recession (ignoring the fact it has done exactly that despite the worst post-war economic crisis for three and a half years now)
April/May - when season has collapsed further concede that maybe we need to "add one or two experienced players" in the coming window, supported by comments that "we have money to spend, and we are not afraid to spend it on the right player". After all its getting close to those ST renewals needing to be made
June-July - go on holiday, allowing yourself a 3 week working break to talk bollocks as a pundit for French TV at Euro 2012
August 1-31 - conduct your affairs in exactly the same way as pointed out above in January. Ensure that RvP is sold only at the latest opportunity possible, hence ensuring that the fee received is less than half his true worth, and that his replacement comes on loan from Chelsea (Salomon Kalou perhaps)
Knowing the way we conduct our business, this would be the only time we would pay £18m......when he has a release clause allegedly for between £5m and £10m.mcdowell42 wrote:Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make an £18m offer for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba.

Also I feel certain that if any club is going to bring out the worst in those dodgy knees of his....it'll be us !
Nigel de Jong, 27, is set to be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season after the midfielder refused to sign a new contract. (the Sun)
I know it's only the Sun and the story is 99.99% bullshit .. but if he has a contract situation up there, we should Definitely inquire and try to sign him up.

Identify your weaknesses.
Present a list of players (no 2nd options) to the board to get.
Pay the going rate
stand & smile next to said players as they hold there new club shirt aloft.

With only 8 working days of the transfer window left, the most interesting thing to happen so far is ........................... ??????
Nothing has happened. Not a single quality player has been bought by anyone. At best a decent CB in Cahill has moved and TH has joined for a couple of weeks. In Spain the story is the same. It may be that the new oil dollars will acquire Tevez, but from a domestic viewpoint it's been a borefest.
I suspect that many clubs would accept a big offer but none appear to be being made. It wouldn't take much to improve our current squad but again, nothing.
It's emblematic that Nigel 'I want even more money' de Jong, who's not going anywhere is the papers' biggest domestic transfer story.
Come on AW, make a headline!
