As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Rooney might be only 28 but he's past it - no pace or stamina anymore.
To build a team round him is ludicrous. United gonna struggle next year too Rvp won't stay to earn less than half of shreks wages.
Their reign is truly done.
RVP is on somewhere between £220,000 and £250,000 a week it seems. If reports are to be believed and they are to sign a new £60m pa deal with Nike, the £30m more they will earn vs our deal with Puma will only just cover the wages of RVP and Rooney

I do wish that sometimes people would stop letting their hatred of a player/team over-rule any football sense they may have.
Rooney has one less goal than Giroud.
Rooney is hyped cos he's united and England - no way would be get in the current German, Spanish or Dutch teams.
No way.
He's been in the EPL 12 years now, and smokes drinks and clubs. He will not last til 31 mark my words.
Clockender, I actually think your post does show a lot of sense. Rooney is not the player he was 5 years ago. 300k a week and no Champions League? Good luck Manure!
5 and a half years is insane. I'm all for keeping hold of your best players but I agree with the idea that he is going to decline drastically come 30 or so. I don't know many players who are willing to work harder on the pitch but off the pitch I don't think he looks after himself that well, and Ferguson was critical of his lack of fitness work in the last season or two. He has also played regular top-flight football for 2 or 3 years longer than the vast majority of PL players which may or may not catch up with him in some way.
He is going to be nearly 34 by the time that contract expires. And they'll still be paying him £300k/w, imagine the sort of return they're going to get for that.
Madness to extend the granny raper's contract at that price. He is waaaaay past his best and will only get worse with age. But I'm sure he bathed himself in grannies to celebrate the news of the pay rise.
they have to keep Rooney- he is their talisman- if he is sold it sends out the wrong message, which other world class players will sign without established players staying? . His agents know this and have Man U over a barrel, he might be good for another season or two but after that who knows. 300K is truly obsene though same for RVP, over the years they will fork out a fortune
Is it correct that the fat useless Shrek understudy had it written into his previous contract, that he had to be on a wage that was. 10% more than the next best earner ?

CAAAAANT ( but clever nonetheless)
IF that is true you can bet your bollocks the first the Granny Raper heard about it was when his Agent/Business Manager/Parasite told him about it. And then I'm sure his reply was along the lines of;

I've heard it on various occasions that Keane had a clause in his deal stipulating that he had to be the highest-paid player at the club (and subsequently got a wage bump when they signed Veron I think).
I have a suspicion that clauses like that are not actually that bizarre in the world of top-level football. Despite their reputation for greed etc, you have to think that nearly all top-level footballers are going to be represented by agents who are likely to be several times worse for obsession with money.
Despite what I've said earlier I think people are being harsh trashing Rooney's season. Not only did he chip in with at least a goal or assist almost every PL game he played until Boxing Day, his workrate and talismanic influence was carrying the team until the collapse.
He has gone off the boil since then mind, although he has also been injured. Might not be the English hero that some people make him out to be but he's not done badly this year especially considering the mess around him.
