:barscarf:
10 mill would be a fairer price but then again everyone is overpriced nowdays. I really dont want Huntelaar.
Di Rossi, Villa, Lescott, Gatusso, KOMPANY. These are the only players that come to mind who are actually good enough and kind of realistic targets (except villa :( )
Personally I think we should go for Kompany, in fact I thought we should have signed him before he went to man city and Im sure after selling them toure and adebayor we must have a good chance of negotiating a deal.

Personally I think AW shouldn't feck about and just sign these Two...Put them both in mid-field with wet Arsenal shirts on and while the opposition get 'dis-tracted' we score a couple of goals!! :barscarf: :D :barscarf:

Patrick Vieira set to return to Arsenal in a Blaise of glory

By Simon Cass
Last updated at 10:25 PM on 30th July 2009
Arsene Wenger is poised to break into the £40million he has received from Manchester City by tying up a deal for long-term target Blaise Matuidi.

And it looks increasingly likely the youngster will be mentored by Patrick Vieira, who could be on his way back to Arsenal.

Fans concerned by the lack of transfer activity will be cheered by the news that Wenger is ready to splash cash from the sales of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to City on St Etienne's £5m-rated defensive midfielder Matuidi, a France Under-21 international.

But the fact that Wenger is considering bringing back ex-skipper Vieira in a sensational move will really capture their imagination.
Matuidi, 22, fits the profile of a typical Wenger signing and the same is true of his only summer capture thus far, defender Thomas Vermaelen, 23, who joined in a £10m deal from Ajax.

St Etienne sporting director and former Arsenal scout, Damien Comolli, conceded recently that an offer from a 'top-10 European club' would be difficult to turn down.

The lack of a natural leader has encouraged the Arsenal manager to explore the possibility of signing his former skipper from Inter Milan on a free transfer

Wenger and Vieira have remained close since he was sold to Juventus for £13.7m in 2005 and the midfielder has been a regular visitor to the Emirates. Contact between the pair has intensified over the past fortnight, which may explain why a potential move to Arsenal rivals Tottenham looks to have hit the buffers.

Vieira is desperate to bow out on a high with France in next summer's World Cup and would be ready to accept a one-year deal on a pay-as-you-play basis. He accepts he would not play every week but the chance to show he still has what it takes does appeal.

A move for the 33-year-old would be a calculated risk after a catalogue of injuries restricted him to 10 Serie A starts last season, but he has looked in good shape in the pre-season campaign. Wenger also remains on the trail of a striker to replace Adebayor, with Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh and Andre- Pierre Gignac of Toulouse two of the most likely candidates.

Insisting his squad needs only minor adjustments, Wenger said: 'If we need to add then we will. We have money available, so for us it is now important to spend it in the right way.'
Marksman Andrey Arshavin firmly believes that his manager must buy a new centre half. The Russian said: 'After the departure of Kolo Toure, our main focus in the transfer market will most likely be on a defender rather than a forward.'

Arshavin is impressed with new boy Vermaelen but believes it is asking a lot for the centre half to step into Toure's shoes.
'He's really quite good,' said Arshavin of the Belgium star. 'But it's difficult for him to immediately replace one of the pillars of our defence.'
Arsenal play in the Emirates Cup this weekend and Arshavin is looking forward to facing competitive opposition from Rangers and Atletico Madrid in the build-up to a new season in which he sees Manchester City as a big threat.

'City have clearly strengthened their squad,' he said. 'I won't say they will claim the title, but they're in good shape to dilute the Big Four. The main task of the first part of the season is to get into the Champions League.'

It's interesting that the Matuidi stories are starting to gather pace now, as I work with a French guy who is a massive Saint-Étienne fan and he told me about a month ago that Matuidi (Mat-oo-dee) would be coming to Arsenal. I asked him whether the young man was any good, and I'm assured that we will be getting a real quality player. I'm told he's big, strong and very skillful. I little bit raw at the moment, but definitely a future star. With that said, I've never seen him play. I'm just going on what someone who watches him play regularly has to say.

There's one major flaw in this article,
De Rossi, 26, is regarded as the most important player at the club behind Francisco Totti and is valued at around £30m, which is far in excess of any transfer fee paid by Arsenal in the past.
Does anyone believe AW would pay £30m for any player? There'd be a few on here unable to post fro a few days if that happened. :o

In L'Equipe today and excuse my translation

Sunderland? No! Arsenal? Yes! Having said last Monday that he was ready to help Marouanne if a big club wanted him, without doubt Laurent Blanc did not believe that Arsene Wenger would come along quite so quickly to the Girondins of Bordeaux. The French manager of Arsenal has called Jean-Louis Triaud to make him aware of his interest in Marouanne Chamakh. If a departure for Sunderland " a club inferior to Bordeaux" has been excluded by Blanc, an exile in London would correspond well with the sporting progression desired by the coach for his player.

"Wenger phoned me and told me he has a list of forwards and that Marouane is on it." The Bordeaux president confirmed to L'Equipe. Officially Bordeaux are demanding €15m to let their Franco-Moroccan forward go. Arsenal are not proposing more than 6 to buy the last year of the contract of Chamakh. Triaud fears that this already complicated deal will become a soap opera.

Please let this be true 8) :barscarf:

This again typifies the difference between us and other ambitious clubs - we should be in there trying to take advantage of their financial crisis and their need to sell - lets face it nearly every time we bid for a player we put in a cheap ridiculous bid but this could be a real chance to get a quality player below market value

In the Mirror today that Everton are in for Swiss Phil

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... -21562941/

The best one though is this headline
Arsene Wenger promises to spend, spend, spend and draws up Arsenal hit list
The article then goes on to quote from AW's press conference yesterday. If they can spin that into "spend, spend, spend" then I want whatever they're having.
