I agree that "shocking" is a pretty ridiculous assessment (although his form was shit for a fairly long period last year I recall). But the second part is right imo, he is really uncomfortable on the ball to the extent that he is terrified to genuinely try and take on a defender and constantly just checks back and looks to offload. Add this to his frankly woeful crossing and his attacking contributions are fairly negligible.

For what it's worth I'd rather him stay. He's not top drawer any more but he still does his job defensively which is far more important to me than bombing down the line as many of these full-backs who are revered for their attacking prowess are all fart no shit if you will (like Shaw or Walker for example). I'm reticent to break up a defensive unit that has by and large performed very encouragingly this year unless it is a clear upgrade, especially as I can see Mertesacker's form dipping alarmingly with an unreliable right-back alongside him. Coleman for me would be ideal but we won't stump up the £15m for him and the realistic alternative is Jenkinson and/or some shit full back in the £5-8m bracket (a la Santos or Monreal).

What a strike. Would have been goal of the season in Spain had it gone in. (Vela vs Barca)

Carlos Vela has declared that Arsenal "wouldn't be very intelligent" if they don't sign him from Real Sociedad this summer.

The Mexican forward has starred in San Sebastian since arriving from north London - initially on loan - three years ago.

This season he has enjoyed a standout season, netting 16 league goals and has emerged on the radar of a number of Europe's biggest clubs.

However, Arsenal included a buy-back clause in his contract when selling him for £2.5million two years ago, which means they can sign him for £3.3million this summer.

And the Daily Star has quoted Vela as saying: "It makes sense they will activate the clause now. A club that sees that a player is performing well for three years and has the chance of having him back for just an extra million.

"If Arsenal wouldn't pay that amount they wouldn't be very intelligent. If we put ourselves in their position we will do the same.

"Now, we have to analyse what can be done and how it can be done. And after putting everything in order, we will make a decision about my future; trying to choose the best way to be happy."

Orbinho ‏@Orbinho 8m
Only eight players were involved in more goals (scored & assisted) than Carlos Vela in the top five leagues - 28.

Orbinho ‏@Orbinho 4m
Those eight players Suarez (43) Ronaldo (40) Messi (39) Zlatan (37) Diego Costa (30) Reus, Alexis Sanchez & Yaya (29)

Anyone still think he's not good enough for us?  He'd walk into our team. If he doesn't join us he'll end up at Real or Barca.

And if my dear old auntie had a big pair of hairy old balls she'd be my uncle!
But she doesn't and that shot missed so instead of being goal of the season it was just a hit and hope from vela who is performing well in the sunny SPL but more importantly has not managed a single goal against any of the big three in the Spanish league, his goals have come in the main against the minnows, he's a flat track bully who's found his level

Yeah but seeing as this will allow us to pretend to have addressed our main problem area for pittance it might actually happen. Far funnier to see you get very emotionally invested in the ones that aren't going to happen :barscarf:

I'll take that as a compliment, someone who is clearly as delusional as your good self does not take me seriously :D
C'mon..... If Vela is the answer it's a really really stupid question, the primera league consists of three teams of quality, there is no way in hell that show pony would get that amount of goals and assists in the premier league.

Have to say 1989, that I do agree with nb123 here - you have gone very OTT and very definitive over transfer rumours in the past (and that is putting it mildly tbh  ) but it seems that you have a real hard on for vela  I always rated vela as a great prospect and was disappointed that he didn't make the grade with us, but the physicality issue remains and I doubt he will handle it any better second time around.
It also scares the bejesus out of me that this will be wenker's sole effort at bolstering our striking options - if he was gonna bring in 2 or 3 proven strikers then I wouldn't be adverse to vela being one of them, but if he only signs one striker then that striker will have to be at least 2 levels above where vela is

What physicality issue? Firstly Vela is the most fouled player in La Liga and he doesn't moan about it. Secondly he's strong as an ox, he holds off CB's much bigger than him.
