Arsenal warned off Matuidi move
St Etienne have insisted midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who has been linked heavily with Arsenal, is not for sale.

The 22-year-old French Under-21 international has two years to run on his contract and is valued at £5m.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested he could buy two players before the transfer window closes.

But St Etienne's general manager Damien Comolli told BBC Sport: "The player is not for sale. I'm not aware of any club being interested in him."

Matuidi, who attended the renowned Clairefontaine academy, joined St Etienne in 2007 from Troyes.

He has played 24 times for the French Under-21 team.

St Etienne begin their Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday with a home fixture against Nice.

Arsenal To Ditch Move For Patrick Vieira – Report

[quote]Arsenal are reportedly ready to ditch plans to bring Patrick Vieira back to north London, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Manager Arsene Wenger had previously admitted he was considering a shock move for the French midfielder, but that is now looking increasing unlikely.

Indeed, the newspaper claims that Wenger is losing interest in Vieira and will instead ask both Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie to “step up as leaders in the dressing room and in big games rather than turn to the 33-year-old former captainâ€

Firstly goal.com is a shit website

Secondly if wenger decides against bringing back PV4 then I would be sad but would also accept it

However I cant get my head around the part where he is instead going to ask cesc and rvp to take on more leadership duties instead :? Isnt cesc already your capt arsene and if so isnt he already giving all the leadership skills he has to the cause ? Anyway one of the things that it seems wenger will never be able to understand is that you are either a leader or you are not and asking players like cesc and rvp to be something that they will never be is just a waste of fcuking time

Chamakh pushes for Arsenal move
Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has made a new appeal to the French club to sanction his proposed move to Arsenal.

The Gunners' reportedly had an offer of £7.5m rejected by Bordeaux, who want £15m despite Chamakh, 25, having only one year left on his current contract.

"My priority is Arsenal, but there are other clubs," the Moroccan, who has also been linked with Sunderland, Fulham and Tottenham, told Canal Plus.

"If it's Arsenal, so much the better. I hope it'll be sorted out very quickly."

Chamakh was speaking ahead of his side's opening Ligue 1 match of the season in which he scored as Bordeaux beat Lens 4-1 at home.

He added: "I am not sleeping as well as I normally do.

"I made my wishes known to the directors at the end of last season. I expressed a wish to join another league.

"As much for Bordeaux's sake as for mine, my situation has to be clarified. I thought they (Bordeaux) would have made things easier for me."

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said on Wednesday that he would grant Chamakh his dream move to Arsenal if Gunner manager Arsene Wenger returned with a improved offer.

Wenger was quoted in L'Equipe on Tuesday as saying: "In five months, if he doesn't prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won't get anything.

"In the current context, to me, it is over. Let's say that at the moment it is terminated.

"I like Chamakh, he is a forward that attracts me, but I already have (Theo) Walcott, (Nicklas) Bendtner, (Robin) Van Persie, (Andrey) Arshavin and Eduardo. I am in no rush.

"My offer seems fair to me, taking the market into account. Chamakh would be good, but there are other options should we wish to pursue them."

Triaud accepted he would lower his initial asking price, but did not say by how much.

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc does not want to lose Chamakh, a player the former France captain considers crucial to his side's chances of retaining the Ligue 1 title they won in May.

He scored 13 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games last season and has scored 15 times in 50 games for his country.

ARSENE WENGER has offered £8million for Bordeaux strike ace Marouane Chamakh.

The Gunners chief insisted he was no longer interested in the Moroccan international, 25, after an initial £6m bid was rejected.

But although Chamakh only has a year left on his contract, a Bordeaux insider said Wenger is in for a nasty shock as the French club is holding out for £10m.

The source said: "Bordeaux are in the driving seat now.

"Wenger blinked first so they know they have the psychological upper hand."

Meanwhile, defender Emmanuel Eboue has agreed to stay with the Gunners.

The Ivory Coast ace, 26, had interested AC Milan, Fiorentina and AS Roma but will remain in London after talks with Wenger.

And the Arsenal boss has signed 16-year-old keeper Damian Martinez for £1.2million.

The Argentina Under-17s ace impressed Wenger while on trial this summer.

But Martinez has been loaned back to his club Independiente for 12 months.
