I can't work out how a hotel is supposed be able to stop a random terrorist from turning up from.the sea by boat, jet ski, or any other method.

Steady on, mate. You can't judge an entire country like that. People could (and do) point a similar finger at the British Empire. I saw Shashi Tharoor being interviewed about The Raj and the British Empire on SlyNews last night and he absolutely lit up the presenter. Here's an interesting article about his book;

I'm sure you would not like to be judged based on that - even if it is historical rather than current. I've traveled the world and met good and shit people in every country I visited. People are people. Nationality and race should never come into it.
