THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wenger is mighty pissed because the board wont sanction his contract renewal.
The board know if they do, hoards of fans with flaming torches will be marching down Holloway Rd.
So Wenger is playing brinkmanship by leaving deals until the last day.
That wouldn't happen though. The majority of the fans are either AKBs or neutrals.

I mean no offence to you buddy but I am sick to the teeth of the bullshit assumption - fact is that there are as many, if not more, fans who want arsole wanker out than those who want to keep him. I would suggest that clowns inc (redaction) were able to galvanise their troops to make themselves heard when their beloved leader was touted as madrids next manager, whereas the wob remain inactive for fear of looking stupid. The longer term Gooners that might be more wob (exception of Steve's dad obviously  ) than akb but many have them have been priced out of attending games or are so depressed at what is happening that they are choosing to stay away but it is hard to ignore that there is now a large sway of support against wenker as seen by the booing at recent games

This x100000.

Was speaking to a buddy last night and said the exact same thing. We are rapidly approaching the end game, au revoir.
I hope so because I cannot take this much longer. Things that should be straightforward, like fully backing the team, have become complicated.

The same as all of us here, I love ArsenaI and want Arsenal to win every game they play. But I now hate Wenger so much that I want Wenger to lose every game he manages

This is obviously a massive problem and a huge conflict of interests when Wenger is the manager of Arsenal

Because of this, I cannot enjoy or celebrate an Arsenal win the way I want to or the way I used to as it means that smug, self-serving hypocrite is winning too.

And also I cannot celebrate or enjoy a Wenger defeat as much as I'd like to because it means an Arsenal loss.

So what happens? I've ended up in a pretty meaningless existence somewhere in-between two extreme positions where I cannot hate what I hate or love what I love.

Supporting Arsenal used to be (and still should be) so much fucking simpler than this.

Top Post Clash - a real paradox - which do you want most Wenger out or Arsenal to do well as we know we can't have both.

AW queries the effect of so many new players down at the Swamp, "it could be a bit unsettling".

Spot on Sherlock! Good job the endless mixed messages (we need to strengthen/this squad is good enough to challenge for the PL etc bollocks), endless Higuain is coming/no he's not (repeat for Gustavo, Suarez etc) sagas isn't unsettling on the dozen fit players we've got!

I genuinely think there's been a huge shift in opinion over this summer amongst the fans. I certainly wouldn't describe the WOB as the majority still but when you have traditionally staunch Wenger supporters like the AST saying we shouldn't offer him a new deal when 2 years ago they'd probably have said give him a job for life.

I know quite a lot of fans who, whilst they wouldn't say Wenger should go, are becoming extremely pissed off at his comedy routine this summer which is in stark contrast to previously blaming "the club" or "the board". I haven't encountered the usual defence that the board won't let him spend any money and haven't seen it put forward anywhere.

Even if the anti-Wenger aren't the majority I think a massive number of fans would be opposed to giving him a new contract on 3rd September (even if most would be won round by an eventual 4th-placed finish and the promise of summer 2014 being different).

I think your being a bit optimistic about Williams SteveO, I mean a player that would cost actual money, in a position we need, can't see it myself

I find the hypocrisy of AW infuriating. As usual we get the no value on market comment and yet this is the club that wasted 5m on Squid, 6m on Park, 6m on Santos and 7m a year on AW himself!

Of course the club has no objections to charging the supporters the 'market going rate' for tickets. I'm so glad I live in Manchester so I don't get fleeced. Anyone who buys a season ticket is either extraordinary wealthy or needs to get their priorities sorted.
