The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I will sit back, relax and watch the next few days unfold just like previous transfer windows

If we sign Danny Wellsh*t, I think I will cry.

They would only be selling him to us as a f**k you for not letting them have Vermalen.

At least with Giroud being injured, Poldi's going nowhere and he might actually get to be a striker again.

Deadset - what a bunch of porkchops
Need the last bit of that again in the Queen's lingo because it made very little sense.

Fcuk all of it made any sense to me tbh  Is it meant to be sarcastic ? If so who is it getting at ? :? Most of us (except the over enthusiastic one who shall remain nameless  ) have long since agreed that neither podolski nor sanchez can play the lone striker role, but their inability to play that role doesn't make giroud any better/less shit (delete as appropriate  )

It has been said many times before, but I actually think this season is the one that we finally miss out on the V.T. Man united have signed Di Maria, and will probably do more business before the end of the window, while Liverpool have signed Balotelli so I think both of them are nailed on top 4, while our delusional manager will be starting Sanogo up front for the next few months, this is going to be an awful season.

Neither of them are nailed on for top 4 - the victims haven't a prayer cos they lost their best player and still have a shit defence, whilst manure's turmoil will be stretched out as botox dutchie fcuks about changing systems and personel 8) I fancy the toffee's to get top 4 this season if I'm honest, but it does worry me slightly that the scum will get top 4 by default cos every team around them is shit

Fair point about Liverpool, but can you honestly see us getting fourth when for the next few months our striking option will be Campbell or Sanogo?

I assume everyone knows Poldi is staying. No mention on here though.

Our midfield should be scoring more - I don't think a 100% reliance on goals on the one we play up front is right. I think with the players we have behind/beside Giroud, we should have several getting double figures. We've had players up front score far more than Giroud in a season but it hasn't brought any success. This is by no means a defence of Giroud but I think we should rightfully be looking elsewhere for goals throughout the team. Ozil and Cazorla especially need to have a word with themselves.

You are aware, for instance, that Wonga said that Anelka was staying at Arsenal and Fabregas was staying at Arsenal........the day before each of them were sold??

Wonga is a compulsive liar.

If Giroud is out long term we definitely do need a striker, not that we couldnt have done with one anyways. Bony would fit the bill for me here, I am a big admirer of his.

We are still desperate for a quality DM, I feel this is the key addition that will complete the balance of the team. From who is available/we have been linked with I would take William Carvalho (although admittedly I havnt seen a great deal of him) he looks the type of player we need, fit, physically strong, big and powerful and good feet (from what I read)

And then we need a back-up CB, not Squillaci-esque, a washed up player on high wages. But someone young (not Chambers young) who can grow but isnt too far away from being a genuine contender to Koscielny and Merts.

I highly doubt we will sign all three, most likely just a defender of some sort, someone probably versatile as AW loves a bit of versatility. This would be a shame as we started the window in promising fashion, making good early signings. But it seems we are still short of properly addressing our needs.

Your asking more goals from our midfield, but with Giroud out injured, our main striker will be a guy who has never scored for the club in a competitive game before(unless you count the Emirates cup) so our midfield would want to be scoring some amount to make up for these lack of goals.

Right, I'm only passing on information, but I'm hearing that we're making a £47m bid for Cavani. #goingbig
