SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Disagree completely, as far as i know, before he had his breakthrough season, he wanted a new contract, and was told he would have to earn it. I can only guess, but presumably felt he was wronged by the club, so he left. As for your comment about him leaving for money, every modern day player is like that.
We were about to flog him off to Birmingham as well. He had every right to fuck us over. On top of all that we didn't offer him a new contract until it was too late. Milan valued him higher than we did and he's half-Italian and a Milan fan, a no-brainer decision for him.
We were not really at fault with Flamini.
Until his final season with us, he showed little of note.
Most fans would have waved bye bye without fanfare after his first two seasons.
But by halfway through his tremendous final season, he was keeping Diarra and Gilberto out of the team.

He wanted more money than we would reasonably offer him, at a time of belt-tightening, though in retrospect we should have paid more to keep him and let Adebayor go!
No grudge against Flamini, why wouldn't he have gone to Milan, most players would have given the opportunity.

Considering our injury list I would sign Flamini on a one year deal...but would have preferred Coquelin to stay and fight for a place.

Would take Micah Richards too, though only if Steve Bould gets to work with him.
Sort of player who needs to operate in an organised defence as in my view he has used strength to get him out of trouble too much as opposed to reading the game.

I've seen the world class tag thrown at some average players but that takes the biscuits!!! Flamoney....world class......jesus fucking wept......
Wanger (who is a complete ham wallet) signing him is the most obvious move in football history!! Cheap past it mercenary signed by senile past it manager. I bet Man Utd and Chavski are shaking in their boots, not to mention Barca and Bayern etc. What a fucking disgrace. Big club?? Wanger is small time, so small time he should be managing Bury because they can match his ambition.
Fuck right off Wanger.

Fans who say that flamoney used us a stepping stone or was entitled to screw us over are missing the point imo - for me he chose short term money over long term career and that is not a good characteristic to have in a player. I cannot stress enough that the bottom line is that he chose going to milan to be a back up to gattuso (THE best player of his type in the world at that time 8) ) rather than continue to carve out a good career for himself at a club where he was a regular and had a chance of establishing himself as an international footballer. I dont give a fcuk that he left us (never felt that he was going to be good enough anyway) and if he had of gone to any club to play regularly then he would have left with my blessing but leaving for the money tells you what his priorities were
I also cant get over the fact that everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that in recent years he has been injury prone - havent we all complained about how many injury prone players we have and everytime we are linked with signing another injury prone player this place nearly goes into meltdown so why should we look at the flamoney situation any less practically ?

Finally I find it funny when I read stuff like how we were close to signing him "despite the fact that he has many offers from other clubs" - it's two weeks into our season (and further in some european leagues) and yet he is still without a club and is training free gratis with his old club  If any other half decent club wanted him and were willing to pay him the money that he thinks he is worth then he would have signed for them by now - the fact is that he knows that uncle wenker can be fooled into thinking that he is still wanted by other clubs and will offer him ridiculous money to stave off these imaginary clubs and of that will please a man so clearly motivated by money  It is clear that wenker knows that he is no longer able to spot a good player and he would rather play safe and sign somebody that he knows rather than trust himself (and his scouts) to sign a better player

What a superb post and I agree with this totally, just watch, first game over at the shitbowl and the majority of the crowd will give him a hero's welcome, when in fact he should be boo'd, jeered until his greedy arse is chased out the club. I wouldn't even give him the rotten, rancid fruit treatment as that would be too good for him!

Anyone else notice that Arsene almost sighed with relief when he finally got to say there was no way we could sign Chomper now?

It's almost like he never had any intention of actually forking out £40M+ for him.... :rubchin:

I bet my bollocks though, in January, when it's all going to shit, Arsene will whip out the old "But who could we have signed that was better than what we have? I tried to sign Suarez, I tried to sign Higuain, but the clubs wouldn't sell... we were maybe 2% away from signing them..."

Fucking close call there, Arsene - nearly spent money signing a quality player!

That lot down the road signed imo the best value striker available this summer, Soldado. He's not as good as Suarez, but he'll get them a lot of goals. I've been wanting mad Arsene to sign him for a few years now.

What do you make of Flamini? Strong character, who makes no bones about it being all about himself, but if he's still up to the job physically, could do a job as a squad player. It doesn't seem to have been any deliberate action on Wenger's part, so more evidence of the lack of any transfer planning.
I just can't believe how the AKBs seem to think there were special rules in place preventing only Arsenal from making any signings this summer, until we'd "qualified for the CL group stages". The lot with the chicken on their chest have managed just fine.

I may be willing to put aside my considerable personal dislike of Flamini if he was still the same player in 2007/08 but he's struggled with injuries and form and the fact he's still without a club speaks volumes.

And it's not the mere fact he left - it's his motivation for doing so. He pissed off to a UEFA Cup side after making some pretty ridiculous wage demands here - it's easy to presume Wenger was taking us down the shitter then but remember just how much ability and potential that 2008 side had - and how we could have kicked on from there had he stayed.

If he stays fit he'll be decent cover but I'd rather see the greedy little shit squirm and beg for a contract. And at any rate I wouldn't offer him a penny more than £30k/w and then when he baulked at it I'd get security to throw him out on his arse.

Absolutely mate, it also gave him the means by which to utter those foolish immortal words 'the transfer window starts now'....By dis-qualifying us from signing Suarez, it meant he could allow his media chummies to put out the rumours about us signing Benny & Diane  - As if they were next on the list because we couldn't get 'Chomper' Suarewz...
