As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'll be shocked if the lad is not playing for us next season.
me too. they'd be stupid to say the deal is done, if they are still negotiating his wages because if they can't agree his wages and it fails then the price of the alternatives jump right up.
that said in France, their papers are reporting on who is replacement will be.
Juventus have become the first club to publicly express an interest in signing Robin Van Persie, but Arsenal are confident they can keep the Netherlands striker at Emirates Stadium.

RVP will be sold once ST renewals are in, and then Podolski will be trumpeted as a class replacement.
so Germany's 6th leading all time scorer with 46/95 at just 26 years of age isn't a class replacement ???
i have to wonder what they're feeding you down the Lane sometimes - bitterness pie ?
Find me one muppet who thinks Podolski is a better/equal player to RVP and I will eat my hat.
Oh hold on....it seems I've found my competition winner already!
I also love his anointed title 'German's 6th leading all time scorer'
Yep. He's better than Gerd Muller he is (which must explain why he flopped at Bayern and just got relegated with Koln)
Decent player. But if he's a replacement for RVP then you can stuff your Podolski.
nobody has mentioned him being the same or better quality as rvp so you are inventing points and arguing against them
he is a class player from what i seen of him, and he joined Bayern in his late teens / early twenties? - some players need time to mature.
the fact that the team he played for got relegated is not of much relevance, if we don't make CL it would not make rvp any better or worse a striker.
agree that we need him + rvp to stay though and maybe another striker as well.
To add to your point on Poldi failing at Bayern, other examples of top players who failed at big clubs include; Shevchenko, Forlan, Veron, Torres at Chelsea, Ibrahimovic at Barca etc.
You wouldn't have any of those at their peak Bab"s?
Someone slopping somewhere does not make them a bad player. Some of our best players of recent years have all fucked up at a club. Podolski will be judged on what he does for us, nothing else matters. But he is certainly a very good signing.
As someone mentioned, had he been signed by Spurs or anyone else we'ld all be moaning, so get on with it

To be fair I think everybody is happy with his signing - where some have expressed concerns is if he was signed to replace rvp rather than play alongside him and I think those are reasonable concerns no ??
It seems some people have a hard time grasping basic comments so please, allow me to repeat myself: Lukas Podolski is a good player. A very good one actually. However. Many Arsenal fans seem criminally blinkered and deluded to the point of farce when it comes to players we sign.
Podolski is nowhere near as Robin Van Persie.
Van Persie is wanted by Real, Citeh, Barca and Man United.
That je could take his pick of big clubs is a sign of his class.
Podolski is not wanted by major clubs.
This doesn't mean he's shit. But it's evidence he isn't considered anywhere in RVP class.
Anyone arguing that Podolski is as good as Robin "ridiculous number of goals in a calendar year", is deluded.
If Podolski comes in to complement RVP, then it's a good signing.
If however, as I suspect, he has come as a replacement, it would be like getting rid of your iPhone and getting a pay as you go Nokia. Good effective phone, does the job but not in the same class.
Another thing I am finding funny is how all of a sudden, Podolski is top top class. A poster claimed he is probably the best available striker on the market.
Erm. Strikers rumoured to be in the market this summer include Gonzalo Higuain, David Villa, Carlos Tevez, Didier Drogba.
Please, please don't insult my intelligence by claiming Podolski is anywhere near that bracket of player. It's just comical.
I repeat: Podolski is a very decent player and will complement RVP well. But please, don't pretend that as a replacement it'd be anything but a step backwards. Or perhaps you were one of those who thought we'd be better off selling Nasri and relying on Gervinho? Or that selling Cesc and bringing in Arteta would make us stronger? Or that Gibbs and Santos could replace Clichy? :roll :
Please. Podolski is a good player, but to call him a top of the range top class purchase is plain false.
He's a very good player though, that's what counts...
