SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Lorient, Montpellier and Lille meanwhile are awaiting a Summer of record profits
Gonalons & Aubameyang not sending you rushing to the front of the ST renewal queue mate?
I more likely to rush to the front of the megaphone queue than get excited over another pair of useless fuckwits from France :D
 I forgot Geoffrey Kondogbia. Still not doing it for ya?

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see this happen and he'll be our marquee signing of the Summer. Personally I don't get what anyone sees in the bloke. He was shite yesterday and is another typical Joe Average Ligue 1 import who would blend in perfectly with Le Chapman, Forehead, SQ Park, and Maryanne. If we signed him he'd be good for a maximum of 12 PL goals. Don't see what he can do that Walcott can't.......so please Loic if you're reading this.......piss off back to France mate

Saw some tweets about us getting Ashley Williams yesterday.
I wouldn't mind. "The Verminator" has been horrid. Also, HE COULD HAVE KILLED HIM!.

still find our lack of depth at striker inexplicable

the statement was made that Giroud and Podolski were not bought to replace vanPursestrings,
obviously the club want to get the most they can for any player sold
but the squad seemed more balanced with the DutchSkunk
in his one season of full fitness HE was basically our only striker
was clear Wenger didn't see Chamakh or Arshavin as options, they were totally frozen out
Bendtner had a season on loan at Sunderland to prove himself, and didn't do enough

the season before we'd bought Ox and Gervinho (+Jenks) and it obviously wasn't enough
I remember saying we need a left back, a centre back a couple more midfielders and a striker
we did, at the very last minute, go out and get those players
Santos - fail (replaced later by Nacho)
Mertesacker - good signing
Arteta - good signing
Yossi - did a job for one season
ParkChuYoung - epic fail

felt like a miracle vanStaplecunt staying fit all of last season (and this, I sold him as top goalscorer, eejit)
we were essentially reliant on him playing every single game (he faded badly at the end of the season)

this season we were almost as reliant on Giroud - Podolski, Feo and Gervinho are all converted widemen
it just makes no sense at all to me - why did we not just sign ANYONE who can play striker FFS

^^And that, along with countless other reasons, is why Wenger should be shown the door (but won't because apparently he's bigger than the club).

Even though senility is taking its toll on AW he did change things in the PL. His training and diet methods are widely copied but, most damagingly for us, his scouting methods have been copied.
Once we could acquire TH14, Anelka, Cesc, PV4 etc relatively cheaply but now all the top clubs have extensive scouting operations and the chances of finding a diamond in the rough are few (Benteke may be an exception). Therefore, if we are going to get the top striker we so desperately need we've got to spend big. We all know we need a GK, DM, RB and a wide man but a striker has to be a priority. 10 or 15 million probably won't be enough so let's get brave and go for Lewandowski (who cost Dortmund less than 4 million), or Lopez, or Cavani, or Falcao or Suarez or .....

we spent over £10M on him though... Massive for a defender.
Would be a disaster to sell him. Sagna will be the one off.
Lots of high earners have expiring contracts too.

Can't let Kos go...

As a football club of any direction apart from financial we are finished until the next manager and owner take over so for now we will have to watch the money machine in full flow.
I am personally so very bored with Arsenal at the moment and said all I have to say.

I personally think they will spend big in the summer, that's why it's important to finish top 4.
They wont let Kos go.

I think that as well.

I don't think we'll match the spending of our rivals (it's not in Wenger's DNA) but I think we'll spend far more than we have in recent seasons. Champions league money can only help.
