The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

In my opinion sagna is THE best right back we have had in the last 20 years 8) Is he a great wing back and great crosser of the ball ? No he clearly isn't but first and foremost he is meant to be a defender and his reading of the game, his prowess in the tackle and his aerial ability makes him one of the best in the game imo. We Gooners are a funny lot............on one hand we berate our full backs when they don't offer us anything going forward, but 5 minutes later we slate them for going bombing up the field and leaving the centre backs exposed  In our system we don't play wingers but opt to play the likes of podolski and cazorla out there, and that leaves our full backs having to provide all the width in our team whilst also having no cover in front of them defensively and I don't think there is a full back in world football capable of doing all that week in and week out

You guys that are labelling him as rubbish should look around and tell me, zabaleta (and maybe coleman) aside, who is better than sagna right now cos going back to the days when we had an eboue type playing there, scares the bejesus out of me

PS Not racist or anything but we should never sign any player that will be competing in the can again - it totally fcuks me off when these players going travelling around the world in January's and end up missing an important month of the season

Well I'm not keen on more Ligue 1 shite. I wanted Coleman. I think we're gonna be worse in the right back position next year. Aurier has nothing on Sagna apart from crosses and attacking from what I've seen.

Pisses me off that Wenger's first instinct is to go shopping in Ligue 1 when there's top players playing in the Prem outside our rivals who would happily join us.

I actually would pick Lauren ahead of Sagna.

Not as good defensively but better with the crosses and cut backs into the box.

To be honest though I am not sure if Lauren would get in ahead of Dixon; yes Dixon occasionally got caught out for pace but his crosses were good and he hardly had a bad game in over a decade.

Yes, he's been caught out quite a few times when he's galloped into the final 3rd
Full backs don't get caught out - the rest of the team does. Everyone should know to slide and adjust when a back gets forward. The only alternative is to never get forward.

United got Kroos and Shaw, now in for Hummels and Robben.
NOBODY will sign ANYONE until world cup ends, right Arsene?

United are going for Kroos and Shaw, they haven't actually got them.

Regardless of his world cup comments, Wenger is probably aware that until we qualify properly for the CL (which this year looks easier than many previous years) we probably cannot sign anyone.
