I have to say that even by the lunatic's standards letting Podolski go now would be one of his worst ever decisions. Sure we've lost other quality players but the squad is already threadbare and he remains the best finisher at the club by a mile

Absolutely. Whether or not he's good enough to play for a title-winning side week in week out is debatable but to suggest that the bloke isn't good enough for a 4th/5th placed team whose squad is already anorexic is lunacy.

His finishing is miles better than anyone else's and today shows why we shouldn't banish him to the touchline - he's not a winger no matter how much Wenger wants him to be. Likewise with Walcott - he's far more effective when he's playing further infield because all he needs is to slip his marker once and he's in on goal - whereas even if he skins somebody out on the wing more often than not he'll still fuck it up with a terrible cross/pass.

And how people label him lazy yet don't mention Walcott's woeful work rate baffles me. The latter is such a luxury player.

He's the one player who trusts himself to shoot on sight too. He's the only player in the squad that would have buried that third goal the way he did. In the build up I was shouting that we were overplaying and fucking the chance up and I reckon if the ball had fallen to anyone else in that position there would have been another pass....but nope, one touch to set it and then bang. So handy to have a player with a natural left footed finish like that - not many around

In the German Sportschau was a short report about the game and about Podolski

2 Day in the Premier League

Lukas Podolski has scored a brace Arsenal to victory in Fulham.

In his first start of this season, the German football player scored two goals (41./68. Minute) and helped his club so that after the 1:3 to kick against Aston Villa for the first league victory. Previously, the France striker Olivier Giroud had scored in the pouring rain in front of 25,622 spectators at Craven Cottage 1-0 (14) for the guests. The goal for Fulham on loan at Aston Villa managed the England international Darren Bent (77).

Besides Podolski Per Mertesacker was in the starting lineup of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The central defender had also acquired again instead of the more injured Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta the Kapitätsbinde. In the 80th Minute it would be almost the fourth goal for Arsenal succeeded.

Podolski celebrated at replacement

Podolski remained until the 81st Minutes on the pitch and was celebrated at its replacement by the fans. The offensive player was despite the speculation about his future and a possible departure from London, not only because of his two goals to the best players of the Gunners.

we won't know that unless he gets a long run as CF.

i have to say nice opportunistic goal from Giroud today too. 3 in 3 this season.

He was afraid to open up his wallet
He was as nervous as he could be
He was afraid to sign Higuain or Suarez
So he settled for Matt Flam-ini

2,3,4 show Arsene the fucking door
He was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny, free signing called Matt Flamini
That once fucked us when he walked away
An itsy bitsy teeny weeny, free signing called Matt Flamini
So in the warchest, the wallet would stay

2,3,4 Lord Wenger won't sign some more

He was afraid that the window was open
He signed a postman from division four
He was afraid that the window was open
So he sold players to make Kroenke more

2,3,4 tell me Arsene's what the score

Its was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny, opening day shit defeat-y
With no signings on display today
An itsy bitsy teeny weeny, opening day shit defeat-y
Cos in the warchest, the wallet did stay

2,3,4 listen now to hear some more

Now there's a list of who we nearly bought-a
Drogba, Goetze and Ronaldo too
Now there's a list of who we nearly bought-a
Mata, Zlatan, plus Zaha and Roo

2,3,4 another fucking window bore

He was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny, free signing called Matt Flam-ini
That AC Milan did not want to play
An itsy bitsy teeny weeny, free signing called Matt Flam-ini
So in the boardroom, the wallet did stay

Bbc commentator on motd asked wenker if he could give him a clue about any future signings and arsole responded by telling him that he couldn't give him (a clue) when he doesn't have one......never a truer word was said

Hansen said Ramsey is like a new signing and I actually hate that phrase but if he continues this vain of form (and does it consistently against top quality opposition) I will agree with it for once.

I'd cringe when I'd see his name on the team sheet last year and while I may not have been as vocal as Yankee I can say I actually hated him playing for us.

I ate my slice of humble pie after seeing him preseason and actually stuck him in my dreamteam (£2.5 million) :barscarf: :barscarf:

I presume everyone's seen that Benzema will be staying put according to his agent?

SteveO you are nuts!

Northbank123 - actually do not want to see Walcott running up and down the wing non-stop.
Prefer that he takes a leaf out of Podolski's book, uses economy of effort, makes fewer runs but well timed runs with a clinical pass/shot at the end, and get the most out of his searing pace.

I thought we were very good today and the other night albeit against limited opposition. But we have the bones of a decent squad and if we add the 3, 4 or 5 top quality signings to put a bit of meat on the bones I would be happy.

I will argue with the AKB's that the meat should have been added earlier in the window and I do still want him gone but we all know he aint going nowhere but I'll get behind The Arsenal coz it has to be done or else it'll be a long miserable season.
