THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I don’t see them as being mutually exclusive to be honest.

Wenger retains confidence because he hasnt EVER failed to achieve the clubs minimum target: CL football
we've normally challenged for trophies but didnt last year
even though last season was a failure in those terms, we did improve from 4th to 3rd
Complete tosh. Why is 4th the minimum target? Wenger claims we go for the title every year. So he's either a liar or he's failing at his job. Which one do you want?
slightly hard of thinking are we?
I'll try and explain slowly for the special class

we 'go for' every single trophy, we want to win every single game
the minimum target is CL football - its never been missed

personally I would give a good manager leeway to miss their target once
but thats not an issue as it has never happened

I was disappointed with his performance today,
starting lineup fair enough but the like-for-like subs were unimaginative
leaving a back 4 to defend against one (esp with 2 fullbacks who contributed very little going forward) was strange

Mate, pick any game you like and the part in bold would apply. He rarely changes the system, just alters the personnel. It's fine when he brings on Pires, Henry & Bergkamp for example, but we don't have this calibre of player any longer.

But wouldn't it have just been exciting taking off Gibbs(who I thought was ineffective), asking Arteta to cover his area as no Sunderland player was attacking down the right, and bringing on Giroud and go for a 3 5 2 with Giroud and Poldi down the middle.

FFS if it showed us anything, it would have showed that maybe AW has a plan B

Wenger is not a tactical manager, never has been
but on many occasions, when desperate, we've brought on extra strikers
Sunderland offered nothing going forward - a draw isnt a tragedy so we weren't 'desperate'
but I didnt see them as a threat - think the gamble was worth taking
IMO he was too scared of a defeat in our first post RVP game

No shit Sherlock.... where have you been for the last 6 to 7 seasons... ? What we have now, today, is the same shit but a different season... it's seamless..

In Wengers deluded mind tactics are those green or orange things that you bought in a nice handy plastic container
