ANR had a rumour a while back that part of the Van Persie deal was that we had first refusal if Chicharito was to leave Man Utd.

Cant see them letting him go that cheap though so we may have first refusal but we'd still have to make an acceptable offer. Never really understood what the benefit of "first refusal" really is tbh.

I'd be happy enough with us signing him but would he be capable of playing the lone role in Wenger's beloved formation? His finishing and movement in the box is his main strength but not sure what his link-up play etc is like. Could just be another square peg the way we'd use him.

West Ham are interested in taking Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh, 28, on loan, while the Gunners are keen on making a move for Hammers midfielder Mohamed Diame, 25.

Full story: Daily Mail

A couple of quick points -

1. Chesney hasn't proved himself good enough yet but he is probably the only young player that has suggested that he could be top quality in a few years. Because of this I am concerned that signing reina at 30 years old would drive chesney out the door cos reina could have another 6 years or so at the top level and no young keeper worth his salt and with any ambition would be willing to wait that long so maybe signing a keeper around the 32-34 year old mark would be a better move ? On top of that I would be very reluctant to spend the type of money required to buy reina when we have so many gaps outfield unless we intend spending upwards of 70m and if we had that type of money then I would prefer if we pushed the boat out on a top quality striker.

2. No more loaning out our average shit players - if they ain't considered good enough then sell them and if we can't sell them then agree some sort of agreement to cancel their contract. Hell we should ofer him to clubs on a free just to get him off the payroll cos there is unlikely to have (m)any clubs willing to pay a transfer fee and meet his wages and he ain't going take a big pay cut is he ?

3. Diame was on on a freebie just 6 months ago......if he was so good why didn't we buy him then ? Am I right in saying that he is another African ? If so is he gone to the acn for a month in jan and whether he is or not, will it be likely/possible that he will be gone for a month every 2nd year ?

Hello Augie mate, just a couple of points, on 1) Are you saying chesney is our only young player or goal keeper, if it is player then I would assume you are not including wilshere who has 10 x the potential that chesney has. On a personal front I think chesney is really really average.

3) If Diame was on a free why buy him :?

I am probably going to get slated by many on here when I say this but I already consider wilshire to be top quality so I am talking about all the other young players outfield included. Re chesney I agree that he has much to prove but I do think that he has shown enough to suggest that he can make it IF he applies himself, if he gets his head in the game and if he isn't forced to continue his education in a team with no tactical gameplan and who continue to hang their keeper and defence out to dry every fcuking week :x

Ok mate, agree that you could say Wilshere has already made the grade but was just classing him as a youngster, regards the defence and keeper bit, i agree that our midfield don't provide enough cover in front of them and haven't done so for 4 + years.

But that is a whole work ethic principle that the majority of our team don't have (or is not instilled), once upon a time pundits said we were as good a team without the ball as with it, meaning when we lost the ball we pressed as a team to get it back as quickly as possible.

Sadly we have lost this valuable edge to our game.

agree, totally overated player.
Last year there were quite a few on here wanting us to blow £20m on the bloke. He is one of the most overrated pieces of dump in the League, but as a cheap African player that produced one mediocre season I'm sure Lord Wenger is checking which player we can sell next to fund a move for him

Chicharito is like Walcott.....play him from the start and he's shite, but bring him on as a sub and he can change a game.

Doesn't matter anyway because Fergie would NEVER sell a decent'ish player to Arsenal.......unlike Wenger, who would sell his childs birth certificate if it made a profit!!

I think he may sell him to Arsenal if he doesn't see Arsenal as a competitor any more.
