The Banner

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The press are gonna love this mate and it'll be interesting to see which side they take, cos don't forget our media always take one side or another. Impartial my arse!!

I posted this on the other thread

How the hell did that man ever get to be a journalist on a national newspaper? That article felt as if it was written by a stroppy 17 year old (big on emotion but very short on facts) and it is so full of contradictions. The passage below is the best bit:-

[QUOTE But I will never get those fans who want their team to lose so it means the manager will get sacked or a player gets dropped. Who on earth would want their team to lose? This is not a new brand of supporter. They've been around since year dot. But they still baffle me. There's some around Arsenal who think it would be a good thing to have a relatively poor season as that would mean the end of Wenger.

Why on earth would you want the end of the greatest manager in the club's history? If a proven manager can rise again, build a good team and lead them back into Europe then what could be better than that? If Wenger can't, then maybe it is time for change. But until that time comes then Wenger deserves nothing but unwavering support for those 90 minutes. QUOTE]

The bits I've highlighted -
1. We don't want Arsenal to lose so that Wenger gets sacked - we want Wenger sacked because Arsenal keep losing :banghead: Talk about twisting facts to support your argument.

2. Wenger has shown since 2007 - 2008 that he is no longer able to work his old magic. That's 4 seasons and counting so in my book we're now at the time for change. But according to Mr Cross we have to pay up, sit like obedient stooges, put up with mediocrity but cheer Wenger to the rafters. WHAT CRAP!!!! Every time I watch Arsenal it costs me the thick end of £100!!

Mr Cross and other AKBs - Arsenal are in decline and we shell out far too much to watch our great club to sit idly. Especially whilst Wenger treats us with contempt and spends £125million a year on dross like Diaby, Almunia, Denilson, Bendtner and many others.

Unless we protest long and loud we'll have to put up with more and more of this rubbish

just a thought but:

How we might out manouvre "Wenger's Orange Storm Troopers" (Copyright Percy)

Firstly a BIG :high5: to AA23 and SWL for their Totally Sterling work on the anti-wenger banner.

Quite a few on here have Rightly raised the point about what "Wenger's Orange Coated Storm Troopers" will do when it or any other (anti-) Wenger/Board banner is unfurled on our home turf.

So it is going to need some organisation, so that there are enough Gooner's there to 'protect' both AA23 & SWL AND the Banner when the (home) unfurling happens, and if so...why not have a group of us like-minded Gooners each with a small (A4/A3) placard with a letter on it so that when all held up at the same time - it says whatever WE want it to...and so it will be far more difficult for the Orange Storm Toopers to get to and confiscate all the placards - or at least a lot longer than it may for them to get the Banner out of (Camera/media/Crowd) view....

The longer any anti-wenger/board banners/displays can be seen (especially by the media and the boardcunts) the more impact they will have.

Excellent! make sure whoever has the 'T' in Trust is alittle absent minded.

Stewards can't throw you out if it was meant to be a supportive message.

Just seeing if the banner is mentioned elsewhere on other Arsenal forum.

Stubbled across Arsenal Mania.
http://arsenal-mania.com/forum/viewtopi ... &start=960
(I've linked from page 33 where the banner is first mentioned. Luckily worked backwards so haven't read the full thread)

There's a thread dedicate to the question "Is it time for Wenger to go". Haven't read the whole thread nor do I know what the make-up of fans are like but the poll started in August!

Only register users can vote and it currently stands at:
Yes (AW to go) 52%
No 30%
Unsure 18%

Even the AKB are short in numbers there.

Arsenal-land have a thread called "Has Wenger's tenure run it's course ?"

A member called Jimbo posts:
As this topic has been running for 18months now, is it an indictment against Wenger, the board, or both ? The poll does not contain " should he move upstairs " I would rather see him go in that direction, than just sack him. I have posted Wenger's failings in the past but i am now leaning to whether the board are also to blame for our demise. Are they just happy to see the turnstiles clicking and bringing in thousands every other week regardless, or is Wenger untouchable. I think it's a mixture of both.

I knwow there's some negative posters on here but 18 months!

Online Arsenal have a thread about the banner itself, reading through it most seem to be completely against it. http://www.onlinearsenal.com/forums/sho ... hp?t=29443

Heres a good one from the same forum. I 100% agree with this. Quite a few things have surfaced recently which further prove that this isn't Wenger's fault. Gourcuff's knee injury, Liverpool rejecting the bids for Reina, Hazard wanting one more season at his current club, Vermaelen's injury, Wilshere's injury, Sagna's injury and so on.

All I see is a series of unfortunate events that have further added to our problems. Give us a fit squad and the issues somewhat disappear.

Apparently wenger was interested in signing him in the last transfer window but he had some kind of knee injury so wenger decided not to risk it

Following a similar pattern to alot of other players that we were 'supposedly' close to signing... :? :?
