What a tosser. What I find really despicable is the implication that he is blaming his team mates for poor attitude, while bigging himself up. How in God's name is that going to earn him respect from other players, or improve the atmosphere amongst them? He doesn't seem to have a clue what captaincy means. Now we're going to have the press stoking this up for weeks, with 'stories' about who hates who, who Gallas meant etc. IMO it's pretty much a sackable offence to cause so much damage to the club. There is no precedent for this.
What it does do is put Wenger's style of management under scrutiny. He chose to keep him captain after last year's debacle. He keeps talking up the 'spirit' of the squad, their ability, togetherness etc. It's all looking very hollow now, so has Wenger been blind to it, or does he just believe that he must keep talking them up in public? Either way it's not working, and you do wonder if he is the type to kick some serious arse with many of these overpaid and prematurely hyped (by him) primadonnas. Potential is nothing without all the hard work, discipline and ambition that a manager has to instil. Does Wenger do that, or does he think that talking positively about them all the time just makes it happen? Whatever, he is facing some challenges now, and he will have to step up to the plate and exert some authority and control.
Should Gallas have spoken out?
Thanks for the article, we need to get rid of him sooner not later, such a *word censored*g88ner wrote:If Gallas is stripped of the captaincy then that's the end of him... Gallas was right- BUT Breaking news says he will lose the captaincy
if this is right i might cry of joy
He'll be a miserbale sod for the rest of the season, then leave in the summer.
To be honest though, what was he thinking????
- the sad thing is... he's making Wenger look a fool for choosing him in the first place!
Here's the link to The Times article....
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 201975.ece

"When, as captain, some players come up to you and talk to you about a player ... complaining about him ... and then during the match you speak to this player and the player in question insults us," Gallas said. "There comes a time where we can no longer comprehend how this can happen."
This is the worst part in my opinion. Maybe I'm taking it wrong, but from what I can make of it, Gallas, having fielded a compliant, chose to confront a player during a match.
Now surely anyone with half a brain could recognise that during a match there is only one priority - the match. Any arguments/disputes/confrontations should be left to the dressing room/training ground/private etc.
A blatant example of Gallas proving that he simply is not captaincy material as has been pointed out by many people on here hundreds of times before.
I like him as a player (or at least I thought I did) but his personality is a joke. Best we be rid of him before things get worse.
Hate to drag it out, but remember the controversy with Chel$ki before he signed for us? The suggestion of own goal threats?
Gallas is not mentally stable.
