2 Questions for the Critics

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

why do ppl keep suggesting Rijkaard and Van Basten - what the fuck have they done in footballing management

Rijkaard manager of Barcelona, - we are not actually like Barca are we - he wouldnt be able to come in and spend £100m like he did there

Van Basten - manager of Ajax, and Holland and acheived nothing

if we are going for big ex player names why not put Gullit, Dalgelish, Souness, Roy Keane in that list, we need some experience bloke who has won things at the highest level - and sadly there is no one out there who is available

True.

Yaya Toure

As for Van Basten, Chunky, whether he won anything with Holland isn't important, what he did do is play expansive, attacking football and managed to fit in all his attacking options - the Dutch loved him!

Rijkard won the CL and managed the likes of Ronaldinho,Messi and Ett"o.Yes he spent £100m but Mourinho spent £400m at Chelski and failed to win them the CL.His teams play the Arsenal way.He would be my choice as neext manager

Agreed. Also - you have to consider the manager's ability to attract players... the cream of Europe would play for Rijkaard... 8)

Only possible downside is I could see that infamous Dutch "attitude" rearing it's ugly head and him doing one after his first run-in with the board... :?

Why do you think that?

He didn't leave Wycombe for Forest in the early 90s

He didn't leave Leicester until he'd at least won 2 cups on took them as far as possible.

Why would he prematurely leave Villa when he's got a realistic chance of overtaking us?
i dont have an actual reason as such, just think Arsenal are a bigger club, more (potential) resources, london club (can attract bigger players), champions league every year (so far), probably more money, more recognition, villa punching above their weight whereas we are well below ours but still level (ish ) in the table
You've missed the point I made

There have been many bigger clubs that have come knocking for O'Neill in the past and he hasn't gone for them, he's retained loyalty to his current club.

Also Randy Lerner has a few quid behind him, Villa is also in the 2nd biggest city in the country and have a fair few fans behind them.
