Wenger shaking hands!?!?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Also that tackle on Eboue from Bellamy didn't help - i wouldn't shake the c**ts hand either
There is no excuse for it, he embaressed all of us last night.
did'nt embarrass me - i'd loved to see Wenger throw a punch at him, Dirty scummy manc wanker -
Yet you whine like a slapped bitch if someone cracks a joke about a dead peado... maybe words are more powerful than weapons...

handshaking is an irrational protocol anyway that all too many follow without thought inc those criticizing him

would hughes rub noses with wenger if wenger was an eskimo - i very much doubt it.

congratulations to wenger on being honest and sticking to his principles- dont pretend to respect someone whom you don`t, and for good reason, simply because others expect it of you.
Bollocks. It isn't about liking or respecting the person. Wenger is representing our club in a very public forum. I liaise with some people I don't like or respect from other organisations but at the start of a meeting they offer the hand I shake it. It's called being an adult.

thats aload of old bollocks, what about the West Ham game when he had to be pulled apart from Pardew - he was representing us then as well, double fucking standards

If two boxers can touch gloves as a mark of respect before bashing fuck out of each other I cannot see why two middle-aged men who are the public front of their respective clubs cannot shake hands after a game.

If Arsenal had been cheated out of the game somehow then it may have offered Wenger some excuse.

We wasn't though, we was beaten fair and square and Hughes ends up looking the batter man due to Wenger's petulence.
Hughes in batter? Wouldn't be a very good seller at the chippie, would it... ???
I don't know Frank, some of those chubbed-up northerners will eat anything, mate!

Unfortunately in all walks of life we cannot afford the luxury of dealing with people that we like or respect. I have to shake hands with tossers every day but thats just life. Are you honestly telling me that you have never shaken the hand of somebody you did not respect?

Remind me, are you in the law business?

Sorry mate, but what the fuck is your point?

Who's using double standards? Wenger? Pardew? Hughes? Me? I thought he let us down badly then too.

you are all a gigantic bunch of pussies, that's what i say.

arseblog sums it all up perfectly:
The other main talking point involved Arsene Wenger not shaking hands with Mark Hughes at the end of the game. Wenger said afterwards:

I am free to shake whose hand I want. I had no professional courtesy to shake his hand.

If people want to label Wenger a sore loser then fine. Frankly I thought Hughes behaviour on the touchline was appalling all night.
Like a big blustering bully he prowled around, baiting Wenger, swearing at him, and basically behaving like an oaf of the highest order - then he complains at the end when a handshake is refused him?
What a *word censored*. Honestly, if you behave like a *word censored* then people will treat you like a *word censored* and Hughes got exactly the kind of respect he deserved - none.

People talk about it being etiquette and all that but if you show someone discourtesy for 90+ minutes and behave like an oik why on earth should they feel obliged to shake your hand just because it's custom to do so? I'm with Wenger on this one, Hughes was a prick. The easy option would have been for Arsene to shake his hand, with cameras looking on and pundits and columnists ready to have a go it's a more difficult decision not to. For me the bottom line if you behave with even a modicum of respect and manners then you will get a handshake at the end of the game - from Arsene Wenger or any other manager. If you don't then you're nothing more than a hypocrite if you complain afterwards. Like Hughes did.

Anyway, there's too much bollocks in football about shaking hands, as if it's the be all and end all of sportsmanship. You shake hands in the tunnel, you shake hands in the line-up with the shitty music before the game, shake hands after the game. Fuck that. There's no need for it all, FIFA/UEFA forcing this veneer of 'We're all super friends!!' to make the game more advertiser friendly. A load of spectic horse minge is what is. I want less handshaking, more kicking people right up in the air. That's what football is really about, not touchy-feely shite like anthems and pre-game embraces.

I would have liked AW to rise above Hughes's petty behaviour. All he was doing was trying to wind him up - and he seems to have achieved that.

I really do think more is being made of this than needs to be.

Clever though isn't he. You're all talking about this and not his decision to play a weakened team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In general I would always like to think once the game is done I could shake hands with anybody. Beaten fair and square, had rings run around me, almost anything done in a fair way.

But I have to say if some arse spent the majority of the game berating me personally on the touch line. Not digging the ref out or the 4th official, but me personally and then offered his hand at the end, well that guy would be lucky to get his hand back with all 4 fingers and the thumb attached. There is the double standard.

Hughes may look the bigger man in the eyes of the media, other supporters, whoever. But through these eyes, the only eyes that matter to this mother fucker, he comes across as a huge *word censored*.

He always does though so not really a surprise though eh? Did you really expect him to change his stance last night?
