In defence of Arsene

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They say stuff like "we used to turn up... watch the boys put in a inept display... have a sing-song... go home and come back next week..."

Well that's not altogether true.

Whilst we had Terry Neill in charge, and especially in the 83/84 season, my older cousin would return with my copy of The Gunner and curse the team and the manager. He'd say "the whole Northbank was having a go at Neill!, What the f$%k is he doing to my club? The ex-*** twat!!"

But then he'd always go back for more!

So what's the difference to today (apart from the fact Wenger isn't ex-Middlesex)?

Do you remember Terry Neils use of subs ? John Kosmina. He always brought him on with two minutes left when we were 1 - 2 or 1 - 3 down and expected him to perform a miracle. There were times when he did not even get a kick - poor sod.

I think Wenger has done a good enough job for the club given the constraints he had to work with. I do however feel that with minimal outlay over the last few transfer windows, we could have put up a better fight for the championship this season. I have found a good article which I think makes a good read regarding my feelings....it's quite long but I do agree with most of what the writer has to say. You can find it here:

spoona.

1. you think owen and neville are among muppets top 6 players

2.you think kalou andmikel are among russians top 6 players

3. 1 and 2 makes your views on football somewhat suspect and that is being kind

4. so your age proves me right. you have not experienced years of not only not winning anything but also not the remotest chance of winning other than the odd cup.

5. you have been 100 times to highbury so if you were 30 when highbury ended, and started going when about 10 then that is 5 times a season and i bet most of these were when wenger was in charge

6. sounds like glory hunting.

7. case proven my lord

8. for once mr. breadhater is correct. he aint a clever lawyer like me.

I named 6 players that were out for both teams, end of its ok fella,we cant all be right all of the time,i know the quality of your posts leave a lot to be desired anyway,(see the non-believer poll :awnker: )so not gonna get too down on myself cos you dont agree with me,they are fairly key players for both sides i would say, especially as united dont have much up top other than Rooney.

i never said i was 30 when we left highbury, please read post properly old boy,my first game i went to was 1987 so i'm not as clever as you(obviously)but if memory serves me right that was a bit before AW,as i said before, apologies for not being born earlier, beyond my control im afraid.

call me a glory hunter if you like,Arsenal has been passed down to me throught my father and his father before that, apologies again for my upbringing.

if you are a lawyer or some sort,no wonder this country is going up the shitter with pricks like you lording it!!!

i'll ask my peers one night to sit me on their knees and tell me about the good old times over highbury when there were only 15,000 there on a wet wednesday night,as no doubt you were there you hardened old school gooner you.

1987! i was right. 1st year we won anything in ages and so now is first time you have experienced a few years winning sod all apart from a lot of admirers for style of football and the way the club is run at least in comparison to many others.

you have been too bloody spoilt. thats your problem and thats the problem with the younger generation. instant success is demanded. well it aint going to happen all the time

you should be bloody grateful your dad and granddad were/are goooners and not bloody scum fans.its not your peers you want to talk to its your dad / granddadand oldfarts like me who have seen real shit

15000! -try 4000

be grateful and fear wenger leaving because chances are it will be worse than better that lies ahead.

I dont count myself as younger generation really being my early-mid 30's,i would said new generation was the jcl's under the wenger era who arent kids brought up on it,more like teens who just decided to support arsenal when they started doing well.

My other grandad was millwall so i'm guess im lucky really!!

Maybe i have been spoilt, but i cant help when i was born,as i stated earlier,it hasnt all been champagne stuff since then has it surely!!i remember the mid 90's team under GG,so maybe i havent been as spoilt as i first thought!!

As for instant succcess,Wenger has brought that upon himself by winning the league in his first full season. We are expected to win it or at least be in with a really good shout as he has won the league a few times since,we have every right to expect us to be up there challenging,do think 6 years under AW given his success already is asking too much or should be keep him for sentimental value for, lets say 10?

what you and other anti wenger impatient gooners overlook is the impact of abromavitch buying a london club

i will give you credit to be able to work out where i amcoming from

ignore augie whoever he is. good on you defending yourself and in coherent way. god-that sounds patronising but not intended as such
