Both are more productive players. I think this will be the beginning of the end for Walcott, and good riddance.
Feel a bit sorry for him as I think Theo Walcott as he is now is the fault of the media,Sven and AW.

He was always a speed merchant, one whose talents were used properly at S'hampton but have been under-used at Arsenal and England. He is no better or worse than Lennon was 4 years ago when Lennon was 19 going on 20. Walcott's 20.

He got overhyped like most speedy none technically gifted English players. Wilshire would be a better bet in the World cup than Lennon/SWP/Walcott, even Johnson's better than all 3 just a bit too young.

I think his career will suffer big time if AW/parents/support network don't get him and sort his head out. Once his heads sorted, then get him to spend a couple of extra hours a day honing the parts of his game that are shit. This let down will stop him believing the hype around young English players...Conor Wickham beware

There are 2 types of players, the naturally gifted ones and the hard workers.

It's sadly taken 3 years for Theo to realise he's the latter and not the former.

No one is going to buy him off us after this, so it's in our interest that AW makes him a better player. There is a half decent player in there and FFS, he's only 20. I'd rather we got the best out of him because Lord knows we won't be shelling out on any decent wingers as our club's too f'ing tight-fisted.

Shay Given would be a better option than the 3 of our present keepers combined for starters. You could make an arguement that duff would be a better option than rosicky/nasri and certainly better than theo and eboue

Interesting that Theo has mentioned to the press before that he didn't deserve to go to the 2006 World Cup, in contrast to now when he...oh...

I'm disappointed he's not going because I want to see all Arsenal players perform well for club and country.

Does mean that I couldn't give a damn about how England go in the World Cup now though.

Joking aside, this is a sad reflection on our club at the moment, maybe there is a link in that we have been without a trophy for so long :?:
Been saying it for years; foreign flair is great but you need a spine of steel, be it English or Scots or Irish, in a team to win the PL in particular.

Look at manure and the chavs in the PL (and the mousers in Europe); Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Cole, Gerrard, Carragher... that's just off the top of me head too.

We need some British (or Oirish!) steel back in the side!
The passport issue always has been and always will be bollocks. We didn't win the league in 2004 because of our British backbone

Personally I hope that spain, holland and france get knocked out in the group stages - why would you want your Arsenal players playing for an extra two weeks when they could be on hols recharging their batteries for the new season ?

I actually want spain to absolutely collapse at the world cup - for a start it might shut some of their arrogant barca players up but secondly it might see an earlier conclusion to the will cesc stay or go saga

Agreed, we need steel and character, full stop. Get 2 or 3 strong characters in the side (Vermaelen is already one) and build the team around them. If Clichy stays for a duration then he will be another. We, as a team, look rudderless without some strong players.

Saves me a dilemma... how do I cheer on a gooner while *word censored* like Lumpard and Cole are on the same side.

Ah well, kom op Nederland!

Although I wanted him to go because the world cup has a way of making a positive impact on a player especially if he plays some games, but whats highlighted above is the most important.

He most improve.

Yes Given is better than our keepers, bit has been at City for a season and wont be leaving them! As for Duff, he is ok, but not better than Nasri, Rosicky and Eboue

any more?

As someone else said, the nationality of a player doesnt come into it, if they are the right player they dont need to be English

i agree with everyone here. if we sign a promising teenager that in the last season, at the tender age of 20, even with being injured for most of the season still manages some decent performances (and yes, some bad ones), scores some great goals and makes good assists, but if he's not already the next robert pires we must slag him off.

he's a very decent player for his age. i hear most here complain about the english media but still everyone easily gets in the "theo is shite" hype no matter how old he is or what he does. it seems people here read the newspaper more than watch football or think about what they're seeing.

he needs to improve, yes, a lot. like 99% of the 20yo football players around. should the fact that he is no cesc fabregas mean he is shit?

by the way, i would have picked him. he's great from the bench. but i also don't think it's too unfair that he was not.

Do you really want than crunt Cashley holding the World cup aloft because that's what will happen if all those teams collapse...beccause even these bunch of tossers would have a chance with that lot missing.

I want England to lose to USA, be dumped out in the 1st knockout stage. Rooney to get sent off for foul and abusive language, Gerrard to be banned for 3 games for simulation in the penalty box, Lennon to snap both achilles and all Arsenal players to come back unscathed in July and ready to win some shit.

Arsenal above all else..to hell with England

Is Wenger slightly to blame for this? His continued playing on the wing when we all can see the he should at least be tried up front.

I've ZERO sympathy and then some.

Fact is that in June last year Wenger - against the judgment of some of us, me included - offered Walcott a £3 million per year, 5 year contract.

That is serious money even in the Alice in Wonderland world of the Prem. Walcott owed Arsenal and Wenger BIG TIME for that display of faith.

His way of replaying us was to give a pretentious and downright disrespectful press conference, shouting his mouth off about how the big challenge this coming season was the World Cup and how he was really looking forward to South Africa - blah, blah, blah !

I was disgusted by that and furious that he took and takes Arsenal and our money for granted and places his primary concerns elsewhere.

That could have been consigned to the dust if he had really delivered for us this season but he has been dire. His desire to imitate David Beckham off the pitch with arm candy girlfriends, kids books and OK Magazine photoshoots doesn't help. He might aspire to Beckham off the pitch but singularly fails to match him on it. He's more like David Brent than David Beckham.

So the answer is to get his overhyped arse down to the training ground for the first day of preseason and start working at his game. It is now his only hope. No one else will be mug enough to offer that kind of money to him so he either starts to perform next August or he's heading for football obscurity.

The choice is his.

I am just annoyed at Wenger's profligacy with our money in relation to unproven players - yet again. Pires wages do not guarantee Pires like performances.

Big mistake Capello, Aaron Lennon and SWP have done no more than Walcott this season, or any other season, the only difference is that Walcott CAN and HAS done it in the big games for both club and country, what have the other 2 EVER done?

There's a long list of big game goals and contributions he's made and he's only 21..

Carling Cup Final Goal
Scored on his England debut
Brought England from the dead away in Germany with two brilliant goals
His run against Liverpool
A Hat-trick in Croatia
Champions league goal against Villareal and Fenerbahce
The speed and ability for the assist he got in Milan
Turned the champions league tie against Barcelona around
