Yes.
I was fishing for the solution there, Captain Geek!
There should be an option whereby you can turn off automatic updates, within Firefox, go to Tools/Options and then click on the update tab, there's a check box that can be ''unchecked'' to stop updates happening automatically.

I'm not sure where it is within AVG, but I would go to a similar area Tools and Options, there should be an option to also uncheck auto updates.
I have Kaspersky on my laptop Frank, and it does seem to update alot. Other than slowing the system down, is it then causing other probems to my laptop...and woul I be better off with another security sysytem??

:? :? :?
Marc, I'm not familar with this A.V.S, but I would, personally, turn off the automatic updates, and just update it manually, say, every over day, when you have a spare moment or when you're not trawling the net for your animal porn.

Other than that, when it comes up for renewal, go for the suggested Avast a.v.s, it's the dogs gonads....

i only trawl for animal porn to recover some self-repect from having TWO *word censored* threads names after me. :? :)

I get Kaspersky for free (legally) - does this make any difference?

It shouldn't make a difference, but some a-v s/ware is very intrusive, a bit like a pet which keeps wanting a pat on the head, I've tried several, but Avast I find to be the least intrusive, and once you've logged onto the net, it updates itself straight away, then you hardly notice it's running.

I can't vouch for Kaspersky, but if you're stating it's constantly updating all the time, imo, it can't be that good... :? :? :?

You could also google about other peoples opinions on a.v. s/ware, that's what I did, and that's how I came across Avast.

Don't start!

Cheers...I think I'll just turn the automatic updates off.

Yes, there was a window of opportunity to shoe horn an animal in...(just for your Marc..)

Yes.... just turn them off, that was what I was trying to say above, (but doing so, in the style of US Martin)

Ermm.... Well... I managed to get something called "Security Suite Virus". It's a *word censored*. I can only use Safe Mode now.

I have Avast and Malwarebytes and neither of them say anything is wrong with the computer... BUT... StopZilla says I have lots of viruses.. and the computer doesn't work when I try outside of Safe Mode..

All I get after logging in is a blank black screen and then when I start up Task Manager all I can do is start Internet Explorer or Firefox. Everything else apparently has a virus. Can't fucking System Restore either.

HELP!

NOD 32 is your friend.

I use this on our company network and it's the best out there.

If you look hard enough you'll even find some keys for free that will keep you going for a few months at a time.

If you have the disks that the system came with then wipe the hard drive and start over again.

No just a black screen from which I can start nothing but Task Manager.

I do, however get a blue screen if it goes on for 5 mins or so.

In that case you need to start again, copy anything that you can or that you want to keep, after starting it up in safe mode, and then use the disks that came with your system to build it up again. What's the operating system? I may have a windows 7 recovery disk that I can copy for you if you want to have Win7 on it?? :?

Dear Frank'll fix it

I have none of the problems that SWL has (  ) but I do have the occasional "unexpected shutdown" and then a blue screen with dumping information for about 30 secs before it asks me whther I want to start in safe mode or standard. Is this serious or not? I don't have problem accessing any of my programs.

Thanks.

Paul (aged lower middling )
