Arshavin?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The trouble with Arsenal at the moment is that we really can't afford a luxury player.

They way we defend, we're likely to be 2 down against better teams, before the genius in Arshavin starts to show. And then it's too late.

Arshavin would excel in a team solid enough to rarely go one down and with enough quality to put a game out of sight in the first 30 minutes. Say like, I don't know, Arsenal circa 2002 -2004. 8)
Agree to a certain extent. Certainly wouldn't play him for 90 minutes, but then can he be an impact player? I'm also not sure about him fitting into that 2002-2004 team so smoothly. He certainly has the technique and intelligence of play, but does he have the pace/physicality that that team used so effectively?
If nancy boy Pires could make a huge impact into that team, I'm sure Arshavin would be equally capable. 8)

When is the last time anybody put in a match winning performance against the big boys?

Another insipid display from the lazy Russian. Quickest he moved was when he sprinted off during the substitution.

I also noticed for the umpteenth time this year that he failed to acknowledge the fans on his way back to the bench.

If you don't want to be here son fuck off back to that Mickey Mouse league we rescued you from

Was thinking the exact same thing from Block 5 yesterday, no acknowledgement of those who pay his wages. ST money spent well.

Let's not get our knickers in a twist because someone doesn't give a half-hearted false wave to fans. He's probably pissed off, then fine, get off as soon as possible. I don't want him to wave, I want him to be too embarassed to.

If he doesn;t care, then , mmmm...Newsflash - Players generally don't, so what's the point attaching to them some responsibility that they simply don't carry.

I couldn't give a flying fuck if they wave, don't, do cartwheels, whatever. If they play well, then they can show the middle finger for all I care.

Fully agreed. Don't know why people get so wound up about players not giving them a little clap at the end of the match.

If I travel to an away game, it's to see Arsenal play. Our players not clapping me for turning up doesn't ruin the experience.

Even when it does happen, most times it's like the insincere rock band saying how thrilled they are to be in.... (reads autocue)... Sheffield!

And yet everyone goes wild, as if they've been made to feel really special. Sheesh, get over yourselves.

Err, fully agree but I think that's the main point.....he isn't and hasn't for some time. The arrogance and lack of appreciation might be befitting of a man playing out of his skin and about to win the Ballon d'Or but not from a man who spends more time tweeting than doing what he's actually fucking paid to do i.e. contribute positively on the pitch.

He started well against West Ham imo, then reverted back to lazy type, someone said above that the fastest he moves is when he gets hooked, I'm surprised he doesn't throw in a few cartwheels as he sprints off, as he looks so pleased to being subbed, anyone else would get the arsehole, show some fucking passion Andrei.

Really this is beginning to look like a vendetta :o :o :o :x

Yes arshavin sprinted faster than at any stage of the game when he was hauled off but we were in desperate need of a goal and running out of time so would you prefer he just strolled off at his ease ? :?

I agree as well that sometimes he is very poor at tracking back but lets be honest here.....he aint a fcuking winger  His position should e in the deep lying centre forward position (a la the great Dennis Bergkamp) where he can provide that touch of magic and do what he does best. He is a player that needs to be involved in the game constantly so that he doesnt snooze in and out of games like he currently does. He is the only player to play for the club in the last 30 years that could come close to having the class of Bergkamp or Brady and could you honestly see Bergkamp having the type of career for us that he did if he was shunted out to the wing ?

The fact is that players of Arshavin's quality are few and far between and in a team of few such talents he should be appreciated more than he is. If the manager was doing his job properly he would realise that to maximise his abilities you have to build a team around him.....instead we build around the likes of song, diaby etc    :banghead:

Spot on Augie. We spent a lot of money on a top class player and then play him out of position and wonder why he isnt fulfilling his potential. As Augie says would DB10 be a legend now if he had played wide all of his Arsenal career?
