Was disappointed with the draw, as I have been for several years now.
Our draw was pretty good, but it's nothing new, sadly. Although we've not played Leeds at the Emirates before, it's familiar opposition and a traditional tie. The latter, in a sense, is welcomed - but it'd have been nice to play somewhere different, like Brighton, Dover, Notts County, or something new. There was nothing new in this draw.
That sentiment can be highlighted by the 'highlight' of the round - Man Utd vs. Liverpool. Yes, a big game, but I feel like I've seen it oh so many times before (probably because I have).
It just seems that the non-league sides never seem to get the big away days anymore, and thus the romance of the cup seems to be dying.
I'm not quite sure if there's a remedy for this, but the FA Cup just feels rather dull these days.
Even Blackburn vs. QPR, which on paper sounds an intriguing contest, would be a complete snoozefest to watch.

I agree there, but in fairness, I wouldn't be that bothered about United putting 10 past Dover or Droylsden.
There was some decent ties in there anyway compared to recent years. There was talk that we might be on a Monday night because the Met wont have all the London teams on the same day.
Hope not...
Sunday would seem more likely.

A friend of mine has been saying that for a couple of years. I've generally been against it.kingjayson1 wrote:Do you think it could work if they seeded it like the Champions League? Then the smaller teams would get to play a big team and probably get a little bit more cash.
Whilst it'd fulfil my wish for the lowest-ranked sides to draw the giants, it'd also make ties such as Man Utd vs. Liverpool impossible in the third round, which would also be a shame. It'd also mean that the tournament wouldn't really get going (for a top-four side such as ourselves) until the fifth round, when the lower league opponents have been wiped out.
I'm not really sure what the answer is, to be honest. I'm not sure there is one, or even needs to be one - it's all down to the luck of the draw, and for the past several years, it's failed us. On another day, it could've come up trumps. By the law of averages, there will surely be some more interesting ties on the cards in the near future.

is there another competition anywhere in the world that's been made as dull and predictable as the CL group stage thanks to the meddling of the authorities.
Which Gooner can't be pleased to see the Mancs and Liverpool have to play full strength sides in early Jan ?
It's only the likes of the GIC that treat the competition with disdain that make it a poor spectacle.....it never used to be that way. Still the poor diddums all need a little rest in the cold winter.

We needed one fielded at Stoke last year. Wasted a weekend and plenty of cash on that one, so won't be doing the same with this one
If anyone else fancies seeing Eastmond anchoring the midfield, Bendtner and JET up front and Vela mincing about in his roll neck you can have my silver memberships for the day

I'm guessing that because we're treating the League Cup more seriously this season, we'll do the same with the FA Cup. Then again, it may just be that the League Cup draws have forced us into playing stronger line-ups (Tottenham and Newcastle, thus far).SteveO 35 wrote:Bring Back Pires wrote:We'll need a strong team fielded for the Leeds game, that's for sure.SteveO 35 wrote:It's only the likes of the GIC that treat the competition with disdain that make it a poor spectacle.....it never used to be that way. Lower-league opposition at home should prove easier than Stoke away, but they still turned over Man Utd at Old Trafford last year (and nearly knocked out Spuds in the next round too).
BBP, I wish I believed it was true but look at the timing of the game. We'll be hearing about how we faced Chelsea, Wigan and Man City in the space of a few days. It'll be Eastmond and his Beer Cup pals and a shock in the making,.....Bring Back Pires wrote:I'm guessing that because we're treating the League Cup more seriously this season, we'll do the same with the FA Cup. Hmm, I've a tendency to agree - but part of me would like to think that AW is listening to the fans, and taking the cups more seriously this season. The Leeds game will be wedged in between a Man City league game and the potential League Cup SF, so there's every chance that the squad will be 'rotated'; but we should be able to manoeuvre our way past Leeds even with a disrupted first eleven.SteveO 35 wrote:BBP, I wish I believed it was true but look at the timing of the game. I think the last time we drew a non-league side was Farnborugh in the mid 2000's (?).Bring Back Pires wrote:Was disappointed with the draw, as I have been for several years now.

Can't remember if it was actually drawn as a home game (transfered) but it was played at highbury.
So as well as getting the half the gate money Arsenal also offered all the sales from the programmes to them.
I think the whole town came down and took the entire clock end. It was nice that they also got a goal to celebrate albeit 5 nill down or something.

We were drawn away and wore our away kit for it. They had 5k in the Clock End for that game, unsurprisingly their next game only got the usual 300 turnout. Their manager/owner at the time (Graham Westley) took all the money and half the squad and went to Stevenage 2 days after the match.Boomer wrote:I think the last time we drew a non-league side was Farnborugh in the mid 2000's (?).Bring Back Pires wrote:Was disappointed with the draw, as I have been for several years now.
