Better than Walcott??

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Theo clearly has talent but hasn't shown it on sufficient occasions. I'm a fan of his but was considering the arguments on this post, for and against, until I saw the quote "Bendtner is twice the player Theo is". Either Benders Mum has joined the forum or someone's been putting Guiness on their cornflakes.

Like many I despair of AW's tactics. Theo is maligned for his crossing but we usually only have one player in the box waiting for the cross. The rest have been playing tippy-tappy in midfield and can't (or have been told not to?) get into the box.
Barca can play their slow build-up because they've a genius in Messi. I'm not sure why we play the 'wide' men and I'm not sure AW does either.

knows were the goal is and would get loads of chances with us

Darren bent is a proper striker......theo is a proper sprinter

I just dont get the whole theo up front thing - I watched him v brum at home and he doesnt fcuking know where to run  He has one asset and that is his ability to run onto through balls but apart from that has he anything to offer ? Can he link up play ? Is he a goal poacher that will come alive in the penalty area ? I dont fcuking think so and his ability to hide in games is second to none  If he gets crowded/frozen out of the game so easily on the wing how will he survive in the middle where it is more crowded esp given how we play ?

Most strikers tend to be strong in one particular area of their game, few of them do everything well...
I don't think for one minute Theo could ever be the ultimate striker, but if you play to his strengths as you should do with all of your players, there are a lot of goals in him even with what he has to offer now...

The tragedy of it is, it's the most logical place for him to play given his weaknesses and his strengths and it's his preffered position... yet there has been no attempt to develop him as a striker since he has been at the club...If he had been developed in the position from arrival a lot of the weaknesses you talk about would have been ironed out adequately enough to make him a far greater prospect in the position..
As it is, to realise his full potential he will have to learn how to play the position properly from scratch, so the last 3-4 years of persevering with him in a position he is obviously not suited to have been a total waste of his time and potential.....good management eh...

Up front. Theo is pure pace and a good finisher to boot. He's completley wasted out wide. We look our most dangerous when Fab plays his through balls to Theo.

The boys 1 dimensional, but we're not using that dimension

His pace is abusive but his inabilty to take on mediocre left-backs means he shouldnt be playing out on the wing. So many of our players get played out of position, something needs to change formation wise. Anyone remember when we played 442? Seems like an age ago now!
And we had players played out of position then too (Wiltord out wide, Parlour inside) or switched to new positions altogether (Lauren, Kolo Toure).

The difference was that these players were accomplished veterans and could play or learn to play in more than one position. Younger players yet to master their best or most natural position sure as heck are gonna struggle learning to play in unnatural roles that much more.
