It was good to see pearce adopting the same age old policy of having a dig at the media in his post match comments - he had a go at their criticism over englands first two performances when the reality was that they were absolute garbage in both games

TBH i'd rather read us martins posts, it's all the usual anti-english guff but i should be used to it and not read it but ocassionally i do and disagree with all of it.....is that ok?????

Not especially no - like many others on here I take the piss when england lose but all that is is just banter. I watched the games cos I am a footie fan and I like to see what young talent there is coming through in the game both inside england and across europe. During the tournament I would say that I had what you would call a pop at 3 engerland players (sturidge, wellbeck and naughton) who, in my opinion, were over-hyped and I also said twice that jordan henderson is over-priced at 20m........you tell me where that equals an anto english agenda

Not only that, but the original summary of the game was spot on. Sturridge was woeful. Henderson was subbed off early in the second half as he had no impact on the game whatsoever.

Danny Welbeck was poor too. To have two big lads in Welbeck and Sturridge playing up top and to cause no problems to the Czech defence says it all about england IMO.

I'm english and I watch all the international tournaments and I'll always support my country whoever is in the England shirt, but I'm not deluded into thinking we're any good because we arent, and judging by what's coming through we're in for a long wait.

The FA continue to blame teams like Arsenal for not buying english players but it's clear for all to see that the reality is the quality of english youngsters is absolutely dire at the moment.

We've always had a youngster to be excited about from a national point of view, a Gerrard, a Rooney, a Michael Owen. If it wasn't for Wilshere we really would be screwed.

The under 21s lumped the ball long and it was never sticking. They were completely clueless, no thought in their play, no quick slick passing in to feet.

It's all grass roots stuff. Kids play on huge pitches from the age of 7 or 8 and the only option is to smash the ball long to get it that far! In reality they should be playing up to at least the age of 14 on small pitches with small goals using one and two touch and no ball over head height. It's a fundemental flaw with English coaching.

sturridge is a quality player, didnt have his best game like (although it was his cross that we scored our goal from) but he was one of the few over the course of the tournament that looked half decent.

As for Henderson, he didnt look like a £20m player, but then pearce is possibly the shittest manager I've ever seen. Henderson has several weaknesses, one is his heading ability and one is his tackling. He is a right sided midfielder- if pushed you could play him as an attacking midfielder. Instead of this he was seemingly asked to play an almost holding role. Why he was asked to do that I will never know, Czech Republic were hardly going forwards and we had Muamba to hold the midfield- Henderson should have been given licence to get forward constantly to play almost off the front man or as i say, put in his proper right hand side position

Pearce has to go, the man is fucking hopeless

Having told my pal how impressed I'd been with him during the season (and especially against us) I have to say my mackem matey that Henderson was shockingly bad during this tournament. Now I know we can't make proper assessments based on a couple of England U21 games but bearing everything in mind, it looks like you've got the best end of this deal and that Steve Bruce has mugged off Liverpool big-time!!

In addtion, to the above, I think Henderson being played in one midfield position rather than another midfield position, and not even as a winger, should not preclude him from showing general awareness, intelligence and vision.

He is what he is. English.

Oh I agree mate, he was poor, didnt influence any of the games and, whilst not any worse than most of the others, he was shite. Like I say though, its hard for the lad when inexplicably played as a holding midfield player, he's a right sided midfielder so should have either been on ahead of cleverley, or at least pushed forward to link between midfield and attack. Playing him so badly out of position was always going to lead to him struggling to influence the games imo

I agree £20m is canny business though. I think he could go on to be a major talent, but he might not, and with the money we can get 2 or 3 who will be at least as effective for now, which should hopefulyl help us cement our place in the top 10 (for example sessegnon, who is one of our best players, only cost us £6m)

to be fair, gullitt is a clueless bellend who got sacked for stupidly deciding to play an inexperienced striker up front for a derby game, leaving one of the best srtikers in the world on the bench before losing. He then went to fucking wherever he went to (some shit hole no one has ever heard of) and got sacked because instead of managing his team as he was paid to, he decided he was better off going out and getting fucked in nightclubs all day every day. Spain has one of the best leagues in the world, probably the best, it has been class for ages. Spain has by far the best national side of recent years. Italian football used to be canny but is utter shit now and their national team is doing pretty shit as well. I think from this we can tell that there isnt much evidence for a link between the standard of the league and the standard of national teams. The problem in England isnt linked to the league, its linked to youth development, especially with regards to playing young lads on full sized pitches too early, having far too much emphasis on results in youth football as opposed to development and not having anywhere near enough quality, well qualified coaches. We could be producing much better players with actual technical ability whilst still maintaining an exciting and popular premier league

England coaches the 'bulldog spirit' whilst other countries coach skills and movement. Let's be honest, there isn't a top quality English coach anywhere, and hasn't been since Bobby Robson.
How the FA can offer Pearce a 2 year extension is flabbergasting, his tactical nous rivaled Wengers during the games with a total inability to change things. English football is fucked internationally and our PL is so good thanks to foreigners.
On the current U21 players, I still think Sturridge is head and shoulders above most of the others and 20m for Henderson? That has to be the worst transfer for years! Absolutely stunning decision to pay that money for him??

I thought Tyler was going to climax everytime Jones or Smalling did anything.

That's open to debate.

People like watching the "excitement" of the Premier League because of what it is. If you change the coaching and place a different emphasis, then you would more than likely find that the Premier League football changes - and English crowds don't seem to want that. Like trying to create a cafe culture - I am afraid there is far too much underpinned in the British culture to have anything much other than what we have now. Our football hasn't changed that much over the years, all that has is the ability of our clubs to buy a Bergkamp, and make the product look good.

Change society first, then the football will follow. Football reflects who we are - and is the same for most countries.
