AGM on Thursday

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If we're not united, we have no chance.

So true...

Questions had to be submitted a few days/weeks ago so of course there will be nothing major asked
Fuck that, people should just be standing up & asking him anyway. Sounds like there was more heckling than usual this year but id love to see some people stand up & actually put the club on the spot rather than just mumbling under their breath.

Bring Back Pires wrote:Just had a report on Sky Sports News. Made some notes of what they mentioned:

AW gave a rousing speech and got a standing ovation, but didn't take questions. The biggest ovation prior to his appearance was the call for PHW to step down and be replaced by David Dein.

Some of AW's quotes:

"We want to do things with class and we want to be brave. I see a lot of fear and discontent [amongst the fans] and I understand it, but we live in a world where we fight with people [clubs] with big resources. If we're not united, we have no chance.

"We defend our self-sustaining model, and believe we can still win trophies and be successful with it.

"Do not underestimate the players I have brought in, they are top class players. The basis of the team and the potential is right. I am more positive than most people are - WE WILL COMPETE!

"Where we will finish in the league, I don't know, but we are ready to fight. Trust us, this team has qualities and is ready to fight. If you trust us, we will have a successful season".

AW also mentioned that last season was his most disappointing, and said that because they played 27 games in three months from November - Feburary, they simply ran out of fuel.

Kroenke had just arrived a couple of hours before the start, and was greeted by a muted reception. He re-inforced the notion that he's committed to AFC in the long term.

Many calls for ticket prices to go down if we don't make the CL, and lots of fans are also unhappy about our current league position.

By that he clearly means birmingham, blackburn, newcastle, the scum *word censored* from the swamp etc  Please wenger do me a favour......just fcuk off and spare me your bullshit about money and class cos you are one of the most classless *word censored* in the game when you lose

Guardian has covered some of Kroenke's quotes:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011 ... vision-agm
Stan Kroenke has maintained that Arsenal have "all the elements for success" while addressing the club's annual general meeting at the Emirates Stadium.

The American billionaire joined the Arsenal board in 2008, but, living up to his nickname "Silent Stan", has made few public statements about his vision and intentions. However, having taken a controlling stake of more than 60% in the club's parent holding company earlier this year, Kroenke has revealed why he became involved.

Kroenke said: "We are involved extensively in sports in the United States and had lots of opportunities to involve ourselves in lots of clubs around Europe and in the Premier League.

"We did not have an interest, but as we became involved with Arsenal in a commercial undertaking in Denver, I became more interested. Arsenal has all the elements that you need to have success in this kind of business.

"[The club] has tremendous management at the top, a wonderful manager on the pitch who makes great decisions in regard to personnel, and a tremendous following with the supporters. With all those things in place, it was an easy decision for us to get more involved."

Kroenke added: "We are glad to be here, are happy with the direction of the club and are here for the long term – we love London. You had better get used to seeing us, because we will be around."

Arsenal's chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, delivered the opening address to the AGM, maintaining that "being a force" in the Premier League and Europe would always be the "main objective".

Gazidis also updated the AGM on the club's "sound financial platform", with all bank loans paid off and the only outstanding debt now related to the stadium move, which is set at affordable long-term rates.

The Arsenal chief executive revealed there would soon be more commercial income from new sponsorship agreements. "We have a sound foundation to move forwards. Standing still has never been an option."

Well he wasn't going to say anything else was he?

He's wheeling out the same bollocks, but I understand he wants the fans behind the team

Just got in.

Stan didn’t want my leather hot pants. :? :?

PHW really is an old *word censored*. He is so out of touch it is unreal. From the first question he just dithered and dived to avoid answering the question directly, politicians answer.

Can’t believe the guy asked PHW to stand down, was quality because there were no objections and rapturous applause. I’m guessing he changed his pre submitted question :coffeespit:

Kroenke's speech was unprepared and sounded like it was unnecessary to him. The way he spoke about us sounded more like an investment to him rather than for footballing reasons, which I am sure everybody gathered I guess. Although somebody did shout out ‘put your money where your mouth is then’ which didn’t get a response.

AW gave a good prepared speech but nothing we haven’t already heard. Although he definitely knows there is discontent amongst the fans.
Never seen people [the board] move to quickly when it finished.

Much more fiery than I thought it would be.

Wenger - "we are the most consistent team of the last 15 years"

You fucking bullshitting joke of a manager!! You seriously think Arsenal are more consistent than Moan Ure in the last 15 years? Fuck off you deluded, self righteous *word censored*.

What a load of horse shit. Same old crap year after year. When will someone be held accountable?

PHW is a complete fucking waste of space. If he had a decent bone in his body he'd step down after it was made perfectly clear that nobody wants him at the club anymore.

Stan's "speech" was of someone who actually doesn't give a toss about the football club, but only cares about his investment.

Wenger said trust the team and they're a good team and blah blah blah same thing we've heard for the last four years.

I never wish death on anyone (well, except for maybe Mike Riley), nor am I implying I want it to happen here, but with PHW now 75, you have to wonder how long he has left at the helm. The day he departs (by whichever means) will be a breath fresh of air for the club, and as it looks like he has no plans to step down, I guess that day won't come until he's passed on.

So in conclusion, I think I'll reward his loyalty to the club by sending him two cases of whisky this Christmas.

If, as it appears, Wenger has basically said the same sort of stuff that he has in previous years, why was he given a standing ovation by those in attendance? :? :? :banghead: :banghead:
