Poll - Safe Standing and Aston Villa trial.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why don't we go back to all pissing up the side of a wall, climbing on to the stadium roof again, having the A-H half time scoreboard with some bloke popping the numbers into the slots, having 12 foot high security fences and being treated like dog shit by the authorities and the police

Leave it where it belongs - in the past.

Even it was 'safe' is it progression ?

Said he would not sign the early day motion for Safe Standing because he was not convinced it was safe on the evidence he had seen so far, but would be open to change his mind if conclusive evidence was presented to him.
He is a Tottingham season ticket holder (home and away) so don't trust anything he says.

We don't want to go back to terraces as they were in the 80s. There has been a huge evolution in how football matches are controlled and policed meaning that there wouldn't be any safety problems. People would be allocated a certain spot on the terrace and crush barriers every other rows = no surge and crush (standing in front of seats is riskier). It has been working for years in Germany so why wouldn't it here?
And there are more than 20 league clubs with terraces, have you heard of problems there? Rugby fans can stand and drink, you can stand and get off your tits at gigs in football grounds (ours included).

No reason not to support it, really, modern terraces are safe and they provide great atmosphere for the matches. Also, is much , much better to watch matches standing and it's really kinda stupid that in you just won't have that option going to a football match.

the 13 clubs and the brum police have sponsored an early day motion to petition the govt this week to allow trials.

the hillsborough group are strongly against it. which is shit cos standin didn't kill the 96, being crushed against the fences did,

fuckers. :banghead:

Man City announced today that they would like to participate in a safe standing trial.

2 down, 18 to go...

you'd think those clubs with falling attendances (us...) would be more up for this, as standing concentrates their support. there's no fun sitting in banks of empty seats is there ?

I don't see why more people don't support this... it's obviously what a lot of people want and will make more spaces available = more money for the club. Let those who want to sit, sit and those who want to stand stand. It ain't fucking rocket science

That Hillsborough group being against safe standing is stupid, as it is safer than standing with seats. They're just trying to moan for the sake of it now, nothing like hillsborough will ever happen in England again.

Support the idea of its safe re-introduction but not sure if I would use it myself now (at my old age of 43 :) )

Been swept along in huge surges on the North Bank, been up against a barrier so that I couldn't breathe (thankfully for only a few seconds) and have been convinced we scored a goal when an Alan Smith downward header beat the keeper but must have bounced up over the bar (league cup semi v Everton ??)

To have safe standing sections of 2,000 or so behind each goal, where likeminded people want to stand, sing, shout without impacting on those around them who do not, or are incapable of doing so due to age, health etc really wouldn't take too much doing would it.

Trouble is our club would no doubt still charge the same price for them as for the comfy, padded seats, so it wouldn't make it any cheaper for joe public, who has been priced out.
