He has only just penned a new contract, no chance he is leaving anytime soon. Needs to stop getting the 3-6 week injuries that he loves but he has come on a hell of a lot over the past 2 yearsnorthbank123 wrote:
Not sure I agree with it but I understand that view.
Gibbs is perenially crocked, he's been better this year but still missed about 7 weeks earlier in the season after getting injured at Wham. Fitness is arguably too unreliable to try and build a defence with him as a part, and what fucking use as a back-up is a player who's pretty likely to be injured if required?
As I said he has been better this season and as a footballer he's improved a lot but if we're having the same debate a year down the line I think we need to get shot.

I think Gibbs has been improving game by game....but I'm pleasaed wenker has bought another L Flank defender - Coz Santos is utter UTTER S.H.I.T.
In fact even in these stills Monreal looks quicker than Santos !

I know, we're stuck with him either way. Hopefully he'll be able to conquer his perennial fitness problems as I reckon he can be a good player for us for years to come. Fingers crossed we'll have some healthy competition in the position now.

The worry is how long before our new Mexican/Canadian from Spain has defence "coached" out of him and we see the same individual errors that TV/Kos/BGF (Big German Fairy) and even Sagna have found.
Our French Kevin Keegan needs to appreciate tactics now the others have caught up on conditioning and scouting networks.

We'll see how long it takes scumbag pullis to integrate his new signings into his starting 11

Yeah let's sell our best defender this season, who is English, came through the academy loves the club gives 100% every game and watch him blossom and fulfill his potential of becoming England's first choice left back for many years to come, elsewhere. Fantastic idea.burg hohenzollern wrote:I don't think he would have been signed had it not been for the injury to Gibbs. As regards Gibbs, I think we have to let him go. Enough is enough.

Not advocating selling him but seriously mate you need to look at the bigger picture. His nationality should never be an issue, nor should whether he came through the club and loves the club....the only things that should matter is (1) is he good enough (2) is he committed enough (3) is his fitness level good enough ? People will argue the first two points but the 3rd one is a resounding no just like it is for diaby and rosicky and most people would cut them loose in the morning as a result of that so shouldn't the same rule apply to Gibbs ? Some fans get emotionally attached to a player (not in sexual way...I hope

As it goes I probably wouldn't sell Gibbs (yet) but from here on he needs to be a back up and not first choice cos nobody, especially wenker, can build a first choice team when your regular left back is constantly getting injured
Re: NACHO MAN SIGNS!!!
Agreed. Seems like another player everyone is keen on slagging off for committing the crime of being injury prone (as if its actually his fault)1989 wrote:Yeah let's sell our best defender this season, who is English, came through the academy loves the club gives 100% every game and watch him blossom and fulfill his potential of becoming England's first choice left back for many years to come, elsewhere. The guy has been really good this season and has come in for some highly unwarranted criticism in my view.
No harm in having Nacho come in though and making Gibbs work hard for a first team place. We should have more competition like that for places in other areas of the team. Chesney in particular would be quick to curb that arrogant streak of his if he was competing with a genuine top class keeper rather than Dumb and Dumber

Monreal is a good player from what I've seen of him in La Liga and to be honest I dont think he would have moved here if he wasnt going to be first choice.
What I dont understand is that if Wenger sees Gibbs as a crock then why on earth would he sign him up to a bumper contract so he can join the likes of Squiddy and Rosicky on the bench or in the treatment room whilst earning massive amounts of money.

Fair enough if you're only talking about mindless gratuitous abuse but in reality whether his lack of availability is his fault or not doesn't make one iota of difference when considering his value/worth to the squad.SteveO 35 wrote:Agreed. Thought he was solid today. Nice easy game for a full-back to be introduced with but nothing to set off any alarm bells and a few wayward shots aside used possession well.
