I really hope He does well. But it is the logic that defies me. You sold your CB captain with an eye out to replace him and then you did not. You said after Giroud was injured we do not need new strikers and we have internal solutions. You watched Remy, Negredo, Balotelli, Falaco all move after Giroud was injured proving to us you indeed have an internal option. Then in the last minute you go and sign a 4th choice forward from a club way below you and now put pressure on him to perform. The more he misses the more the crowd turn on him. Then you let a young centre back leave for reasons known only to you. Surely he's senile ? There can't be another explanation.

1989, mate. Of course he would. He would go anywhere that would meet his wage demands. That is the modern footballer. :|

I'm sure he thinks he's going to get a role centrally, and in a sane world he would, but nothing Arsene does would shock me. Honestly, I would not be surprised if we see Welbeck out wide and Sanogoals still in the centre.

Furthermore; what realistic assurances can be given? If it's written into his contract then what, he can leave for free if we have the temerity to move him wide left for 45 minutes? The simple truth is he left because he was told he was no longer wanted.

We will utilise him in the exact same way as United, it's just that he will play more. Until, that is, he meets our medical staff.

I have to admit I have liked welbeck as a player since he came through at utd, not so much because of the fact he is an ardent utd fan.

I was surprised to see that he never pushed on from his early promise. Part of that is due to playing out wide. But it also has to be said his finishing leaves a lot to be desired (welcome to the arsenal). I can only hope that he can really improve on that, because Arsenal really need him to.

Plusses are his pace, general ability on the ball and he is tall and strong, no doubt he'll fit in, but we needed a goal scorer.

I'm more miffed that no defensive players came especially midfield. Augie suggested that Arsene seems intent on protecting giroud, and there is something to that. The same can be said of arteta/flamini. Both are really getting on age, we have no understudies so why did no one come in? Ill be mad pissed if next summer carvahlo signs for Chelsea and goes on to be a star.

We gotta give welbeck the support he needs, doubt his confidence is that high, but hopefully it comes with goals. 16M is not a bad price for 23 year old Englishmen with potential. Naturally wenger will always opt for a younger player so you can never judge the current team it's always how it performs in the future.

I really hope he comes in and scores loads of goals, especially against the tops sides so we never have to see Giroud or hear his fucking song ever again!!

Wellbeck will be a huge improvement on Sanogo, Bendtner and the Mexican whose name eludes me for the moment. He has pace is good in the air and is very direct. I think could turn out to be a very good buy (similar to Sturridge)
Of course he isn’t what we would have liked and unlikely to be the signing that will make us title contenders, (we would need at least 2 or 3 more players for that, not to mention a new manager) but I’m glad we signed him rather than Remy, who is lazy, moody and the mousers didn’t pull out of their deal to sign him without good reason.
The interesting thing now will be Wenker’s first team selection after the break, if Sanogo starts and Wellbeck is on the bench, then what was the fucking point.

I agree rather welbeck than remy.

As for balotelli its close but I just never wanted Mario. Because inevitably he'll have a meltdown, let the team down and arsene and us will have to bend over backwards to cover his ass.

Welbeck will work hard for us, and we have to understand he will be very motivated to succeed here. I'm sure he wants to prove to utd and everyone he is a quality striker.

I think because he was a utd player we're very happy to criticise him, after all when fergie was there most of their players were playing at a very high level, and he never really blossomed, although he was always involved. Not easy playing in rooney's shadow.

Im not suggesting that he will turn out to be a world class signing, but I think he is will be decent for the club. If he grabs 10 league goals between now and the end of the season, I will be happy enough, especially when Giroud got 15 League goals last season, and he was in his second season at the club.

Isnt that the point though.....don't we need more than "decent" ?

So you are questioning his mentality to play at a big club ?

I agree, but its Wenger we are dealing with here, the man tried to get Suarez last summer, spent the last day of the January window trying to get whatever striker he could on loan, and yet waited until the 1st of September to get a striker, so don't expect top quality.

well it's not so much that but under the circumstances, maybe he felt he was never given a fair chance. Which isn't true really because he was but from his POV he felt he wasn't fairly treated, pushed wide. You get the hump don't perform as well as you could, maybe even try too hard. Remember he is only 23. Sturidge was the same, and he really would get the hump.

I'm not saying he couldn't handle the pressure, that's different. Ben Foster admitted he couldn't handle the pressure as a goalkeeper at UTD and his very happy playing at West Brom.

For me if Welbeck improves on his finishing he will be a success. Everything else is there. Like Ramsey said, he used to rush as a soon as he got into the box. Welbeck needs to relax a bit, focus and finish. (I haven't done my coaching badges yet, admittedly).

Naah he(Wellbeck) is our New Holding Central Mid-fielder. - Surely people know wenger and his idiosyncracies by now!?
