A good article. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ution.html

Backed by Qatar's billions, Sarkozy's brokerage and Beckham's glamour, Paris St Germain are forging the new French Revolution.

The tale of the takeover of Paris St Germain by Qatar Sports Investments, a subsidiary of the Qatari Al-Thani royal family's investment vehicle, the Qatar Investment Authority, is well recorded: a meeting with then President Sarkozy and Qatar's Crown Prince, Tamin bin Hamad al-Thani took place at the Elysée Palace on November 23, 2010. Also in attendance was UEFA president Michel Platini.

A month later Qatar, the state with the highest GDP per head of population in the world thanks to its gas reserves, shocked the world to win the right to host the 2022 World Cup finals, helped by Platini's vote.

'I voted completely independently for a region that has never before hosted the World Cup and not because Sarkozy asked me to,' insists Platini.

Shortly afterwards, Platini's lawyer son, Laurent, started work for Qatar Sports Investments. And in July 2011, the takeover of PSG by Qatar Sports Investment was completed.

'I don't think there's any doubt that the acquisition of PSG was part of a larger deal, in which the French, including Platini, supported the World Cup bid,' said James Dorsey, Senior Fellow at Singapore's Nanyang Technical University and an expert on football in the Middle East.

Wal-Mart And Sears Don't Plan To Pay Victims Of A Bangladesh Factory Fire That Killed 120.

http://www.businessinsider.com/wal-mart ... ire-2013-4

Wal-Mart and Sears aren't planning to pay the victims of a Bangladesh factory fire in November that killed more than 120 people who were making garments for the retailers.

The two companies ignored an invitation to attend a Geneva, Switzerland meeting where retailers who worked with the factory, Tazreen Design Ltd., were supposed to discuss how to compensate victims and their families, reported Renee Dudley at Bloomberg.

Sears told Dudley that it declined an invitation to the meeting, while Wal-Mart declined to comment.

The companies didn't technically employ the workers and aren't legally required to help them.

But factory advocates say that it's important for the retailers who work with these factories to step up and show they're committed to improving the situation.

“It’s so important for Western retailers to be at this meeting,” said Kalpona Akter, executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, told Bloomberg. “If they’re not there, they’re totally giving the message that they are supporting these death traps and they really don’t care how many lives go to make these clothes.”

Wal-Mart has donated $1.6 million to training and safety enforcement in Bangladesh.

More than 700 people have died in Bangladesh factories since 2005, and the majority of those who died worked in the garment industry, Dudley reported.

Thanks for the link.

It does say that Walmart have donated 1.6M dollars to Bangladesh training and safety, and that the workers who died were not employed by Walmart.

Whilst a gesture by Kroenke would be great, there is no obligation for him to do anything.

Quartz.
I wonder whether the $1.6m will be appropiated as intentioned? Fire and safety? My arse. PR bollocks imo.
I call bullshit on Kranky/Walmart donating the money. He/Walmart should have just divvied the money between the families of those who perished.
Clothes being made at what, 3 cents a go to be sold for twenty dollars, the git ain't going to make any gesture.
Sorry, just my opinion of the money grabbing entrepreneur/businessman that is at the helm of our club.

Pretty awful thing to say given that so many people lost their lives and continue to work in squalid conditions but I don't really give a fuck whether or not he has ethics and a moral compass in the way he conducts business. Just as I wouldn't care if he was actually presiding over progress and success at the club.

I have no idea.
But it's more than I have ever given to help Bengali sweatshop workers.

I am not keen on him as owner of our club on what I have seen so far, and have made no secret of my wish for a new owner.
But without knowing more details, I find it hard to criticise his conduct on this fire.

Legally, Wiggy has done nothing wrong in refusing compo. But morally? His company make gazillions from the toil of these sweatshop workers and if I'd have been in his shoes, that minted etc, I'd have given them a few million between their families because it would be the right thing to do. I think most of us would have. :|

Sure, he's not legally obliged to do it but why not use even just a tiny fraction of his huge obscene wealth to do some real good for a change? 8)

So this is a valuation of what it would cost someone to buy these clubs as opposed to what income they generate ?

Therefore despite being 4th, (quelle suprise) it means nothing other than giving Kronke / Jabba a guide price on their stock.

Exactly. It's his wife's family business not his, so I don't see why he has been mentioned at the forefront of the story. :rubchin:
